1. Shiv Sena Wants CM Post For BJP’s Allies In Their States

In an indication that the Shiv Sena is eyeing the chief minister’s (CM) post in Maharashtra if it enters into an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a Sena leader on Thursday said the BJP should offer the CM position to its alliance partners in their states.

The leader also said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies like Sena and Akali Dal will play a bigger role after the Lok Sabha elections.

The fresh statement from the Sena indicates that it is willing for a pre-poll tie-up provided it gets the CM post. Last month, the party had made it clear that it will remain a ‘big brother’ in Maharashtra politics.

Arguing against reservation for members of the Maratha community in government jobs and educational institutions, senior counsel Pradeep Sancheti on Thursday told the Bombay High Court that the survey conducted by agencies on 43,000 families, based on which the Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission (MSBCC) concluded that Marathas are socially backward, is erroneous and cannot be relied upon.

A Division Bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Bharati H Dangre were hearing final arguments in three petitions filed by advocates Jaishri Patil, Sanjeet Shukla and Dr Uday Dhople along with others, challenging the notification published by the Maharashtra government on November 30, 2018, providing 16 per cent reservation to the community.

In a two-page application submitted to the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday, Indrani Mukerjea, who is accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, sought permission to undergo a lie detector test. She said she wanted to do so “in the name of justice”.

The court has asked the CBI to file a reply on Mukerjea’s plea.

Mukerjea, along with her husband Peter and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, were produced before the special CBI court on Wednesday. The testimonies of private airline executive Mukesh Gupta and Sameer Buddha, who had been an employee of INX companies founded by the Mukerjeas, were recorded.
