1. Maharashtra May Be Moving Towards President’s Rule: Experts

Constitutional experts feel Maharashtra is moving towards President’s rule after two parties, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena, have failed to prove their ability to form the next government.

While BJP, which is the single-largest party with 105 seats, did not stake claim to form the government on Sunday, Sena, with 56 seats, on Monday sought a 48-hour extension of the deadline from the Governor to get Nationalist Congress Party (54 seats) and Congress (44 seats) on board. The Governor, however, refused an extension, and instead invited NCP to form the government.

2. Mahim Building on Metro Line 3 Sinks, Officials Evacuate 25 Families

A building near the under-construction Sitladevi station on Metro Line 3 sank at least 6 mm on Sunday night, forcing the 25 families living in it to evacuate.

The sinkage of Laxmi building was noticed around 10 pm on Sunday. The residents also noticed large cracks on the top floor. There were no injuries to any of the residents but all the families living in the building moved out for their own safety.

Twenty-five families living in the building were evacuated by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) and the disaster management cell of BMC for their own safety. They have been shifted to hotels. Metro 3 is a 33.5-km underground corridor, also known as the Churchgate-Bandra-SEEPZ line.

The Bombay High Court on Monday gave the Raigad District Collector six weeks to demolish five bungalows constructed illegally on the beaches of Alibaug.

Justice S C Dharmadhikari and Justice Riyaz Chagla had directed Raigad Collector Vijay Suryawanshi to be present in court after previously making their displeasure known towards district administration officials for skipping hearings.
