1. Aarey Chaos: Citizens Arrested for Protest Granted Bail by Court
A sessions court on Sunday granted bail to all 29 citizens who were detained and later arrested for protesting against the hacking of trees in Aarey Colony in Goregaon (East).
The citizens had stormed the site, where the car shed for Metro-3 will come up, on Friday evening after learning on social media that the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has started to cut trees. They were arrested for obstructing public servant from discharging duty and unlawful assembly. Dilip Sawant, additional commissioner, north region, confirmed the development.

2. EOW Claims PMC Bank Ex-Chairman Worked for HDIL
Former Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank chairman Waryam Singh was the director of real estate giant HDIL before he joined the bank, the Economic Offences Wing has revealed. Based on EOW’s application, a metropolitan magistrate court on Sunday remanded Singh in police custody till October 9.
Singh was arrested on Saturday near Mahim Church. An EOW officer said the agency needed his custody because his interrogation is necessary as he was HDIL’s director and the real estate giant is accused of defaulting on loans given by the bank.

3. Police Stop Climate Change ‘Die-In’ at Bandra Reclamation
After protests over Friday and Saturday against the felling of trees at Aarey that led to prohibitory orders in the area and the arrest of 29 people, Mumbai Police on Sunday took no chances and prevented close to 100 people from gathering at the Bandra Reclamation for a climate change “die-in”, in which participants lie down and pretend to be dead.
Though members of a group called ‘Extinction Rebellion’, who called the unusual protest, said they had the required permissions, police dispersed those who began assembling at the venue at Bandra Reclamation near the Bandra-Wo rli Sea Link.

4. Maha Polls: 800 Nominations in State Declared Invalid
After scrutiny, the Election Commission on Saturday declared 800 nominations invalid. Of the 5,543 nominations received, 4,743 have been found valid. Monday is the last day for withdrawing nominations.
According to the election commission, maximum nominations (372) were found invalid in Pune district, followed by Nanded district (327), whereas the number was lowest (27) in Sindhudurg district.
The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have lost one official candidate each – Congress’s Ramesh Gaikwad (Aurangabad West) and NCP’s Prashant Shitole (Chinchwad).

5. 40 Lakh Bogus Voters in Maha, Alleges Ambedkar
At least 40 lakh bogus voters have been enrolled for the Assembly elections, Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar alleged on Sunday.
“We scanned the list of voters published by the election commission and found lot of errors. On the election commission’s website, we found many voters without the EPIC (Electoral Photo ID Card) number or with the same EPIC numbers. It shows that these bogus voters would be used to vote for the ruling party in multiple constituencies,” he alleged.
