Ghatkopar MLA’s half-hearted apology did not go down well with his boss, who called him up to give him a stern warning, forced him to apologise again.

While he did not make any comment on the issue in public, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called up errant MLA Ram Kadam and asked him to tender an unconditional apology after his comment on kidnapping women for spurned suitors drew outrage from all. Kadam’s halfhearted apology on Wednesday only added fuel to the fire with calls for his sacking gaining ground.

Fadnavis, who has also been criticised for his silence on the issue, then stepped in and asked Kadam to tender an unconditional and unequivocal apology.

The state government’s special public prosecutor on Thursday claimed before the commission inquiring into the Bhima Koregaon violence that the incident on January 1 could have been caused by a “third group” to “spread anarchy”.

Witness Manisha Khopkar (44), who was attacked during the violence, told the commission that while a group had pelted stones at them, men with saffron flags had passed them on motorcycles while raising slogans.

An FIR has been lodged against Samasta Hindu Aghadi leader Milind Ekbote and Shri Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan leader Sambhaji Bhide at Shikrapur police station, under which Bhima Koregaon village falls, to probe their role in instigating the violence against those who had gathered to pay homage to the martyrs of the battle of Koregaon on its 200th anniversary on January 1.

From next year, central railway (CR) commuters may be able to take trains originating at Parel, as the deadline for completion of Parel terminus has been pulled back to December 2018 from March 2019.

In the past few years, the number of commuters using Parel-Prabhadevi stations has increased significantly with central Mumbai emerging as the new commercial district. The project, estimated to cost ₹51 crore, was announced under the second phase of the ambitious Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-2), but it got a push after last year’s stampede killed 23.

As part of the plan, CR will start trains towards the north (Thane or Kalyan) from Parel to ease the pressure off Dadar station. The terminus will come up on platform number one, which handled Kalyan-bound trains until the new platform was built, said a senior railway official. Also, CR will build two lines on the north-end of the station, where the trains will be parked.
