1. Nitin Gadkari: BMC Has Rs 58,000 Crore in Bank, but Mumbai Flooded Every Year
Union Minister for Surface Transport and BJP leader Nitin Gadkari on Friday took a swipe at the Shiv Sena led Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) saying that the civic body is sitting on a huge cash pile, but the city’s monsoon woes persist.
“The BMC has a fixed deposit of Rs 58,000 crore in bank. But every year we see Mumbai gets flooded,” he said.

2. Ponzi Scam: ED Attaches Rs 300 Crore Assets of Telangana Group
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently attached properties worth Rs 299.98 crore belonging to Nowhera Shaikh of Hyderabad based Heera Group of companies and others, in relation to a Ponzi scheme case. The seized properties including 96 immovable properties in the form of agricultural lands, commercial plots, residential buildings and commercial complexes worth Rs 277.29 and bank balances worth Rs 22.69 crore.
The Heera Group has been booked in various cases registered across the country. Complainants alleged that the firm collected deposits from lakhs of investors by falsely promising high returns. October 26, 2018, Shaikh was arrested by the Mumbai police’s economic offences wing (EOW).

3. With New Tech, You May Get More Suburban Trains During Peak Hours

In good news for suburban local train commuters, the number of services during peak hours will be increased to 24, from the 18 available currently, as the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has started conducting the technical assessment for implementation of the Rs 5,928-crore Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) project.
The project will take four years to be implemented on all three suburban railway lines.

4. Senior Citizen Drugged, Robbed by Co-Passenger in Mumbai-Bound Bus
A 63-year-old man was drugged and robbed by a co-passenger while he was travelling from Jamkhendi in Karnataka to Mumbai by a state transport bus.
The victim, Ramchandra Gore, is a resident of Kharghar. The incident took place on August 11, when Gore boarded the bus at Jamkhendi. The bus reached Swargate bus depot in Pune in the afternoon, where a person got on it and sat next to Gore.

5. No More Big Discounts, Say City Restaurateurs
On Thursday, as the country celebrated 73 years of Independence, 300 members of the National Restaurant Association of India’s Delhi chapter sought independence from food aggregators that offer subscribers to their schemes deep discounts on dining experiences. Now, the NRAI’s Mumbai chapter, which also has some 300 members, has issued a poster --which restaurants will be encouraged to display – which decries the practices of entities like Zomato, Magicpin, NearBuy, EazyDiner and Dineout as ‘unjust.’
