Militant, Security Personnel Killed in Encounter in J&K’s Shopian

A militant and a security personnel were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Friday, 2 August, the police said, according to ANI.

Sepoy Rambir of 34 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army was killed in the encounter.

Earlier in the day, the security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Pandoshan village, acting on a tip off about the presence of militants in the area, according to PTI.

"One terrorist, Zeenat-ul-Islam, a resident of Memender area of Shopian, has been killed in the Pandoshan operation," an Army official told PTI.

Weapons and war-like stores have been recovered from the encounter site, the official reportedly said, adding that the operation was underway.
