Old Woman, Son Shot Dead by Assailants in Broad Daylight in Meerut

The assailants pumped eight bullets into the woman who was seated outside her house.

In a shocking incident that was caught on CCTV, an aged woman and her son were shot dead in broad daylight in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police said.

The incident took place Sorkha village in Meerut outside the victim’s house. Police said prima facie the uncle and brother-in-law of the deceased was the main suspect, as their families are locked in a land dispute.

The deceased have been identified as Nichattar Kaur and Balwinder.

Police officials said that the two were soon going to testify in a court as witnesses to the murder of Kaur’s husband’s over the land dispute. The suspects had warned the woman and her son not to testify in the court, failing which they would be killed.

The assailants came on a motorcycle and after killing the two fled on foot, leaving behind their bike. NDTV reported that their faces were covered with handkerchiefs. The assailants reportedly shot at the woman eight times in her face and torso repeatedly till she stopped moving.

Additional Director General of Police Anand Kumar said one of the accused had been arrested. Four policemen, including the Station House Officer of Partapur, have been suspended for "administrative lapses".
