A sixty five-year-old man was attacked on Sunday, 22 July, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district while he was on his way to Banihal with a buffalo. The buffalo was being transported for Sheikh’s domestic use, according to a Greater Kashmir report.

Abdul Hamid Sheikh was confronted by one Prabhat Singh. Subsequently, two male members of Prabhat’s family joined him. As the altercation intensified, the elderly Sheikh sustained minor injuries. He was sent to a local hospital.

‘Not Cow Vigilantism’

Speaking to ANI, the Jammu and Kashmir police, however, said that the incident was not a case of cow vigilantism. The complainant has been discharged from the local hospital and is safely on his way home, they said.

“A case was registered and three accused were arrested. Further investigation is on”, the police said in a statement.

Sajjad Sarwar, the Banihal sub-divisional police officer, identified the three persons arrested as Prabhat Singh, Dharam Singh and Sandeep Singh.

The complainant was discharged from the local hospital, and he has since proceeded safely to his home. This is just a normal case, and not a case of cow vigilantism as being claimed by the media.

They said the cause of the scuffle between Sheikh and the Singh family was a monetary disagreement.
