An unidentified man jumped off the platform at the National College metro station station on Friday, 11 January, police said.

Around 11:15 am on Friday, the metro train travelling to Yelachenahalli from Nagasandra arrived at the National College Metro Station. A man had jumped off the platform and onto the tracks, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials said. The loco pilot immediately stopped the train and the man got caught under it.

When the train halted, the doors to the train did not open, and passengers on the platform, who had seen the man jumping, began to move away from the platform.

The man has sustained serious head injuries and has been shifted to Victoria Hospital, police said.

BMRCL has not disclosed the man’s identity. The Basavanagudi Police were informed of the incident and rushed to the spot. Train services were disrupted for over an hour along the green line’s Nagasandra-Yelachenahalli route.

Train services between Nagasandra and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Stations were also disrupted for over an hour. They have since resumed.

This is the second such incident reported in Bengaluru. In 2012, a 16-year-old boy had jumped off the platform of MG Road Metro Station and had died. Metro officials had tightened security in every metro station since the first incident was reported.
