A 60-year-old scrap dealer was allegedly beaten to death in northeast Delhi on Friday, 28 February, in what appeared to be a fresh case of violence, PTI reported.
The Public Relations Officer, Delhi Police, however, issued a clarification on 29 February stating that there has been no fresh violence after 25 February.
"Some sections of media have carried news item claiming fresh violence in which one person is killed and 2 others injured, in Shiv Vihar area of North-East Delhi. It is found to be factually incorrect and baseless." said the police in the clarification statement.
Ayub Shabbir was found injured by locals at Karawal Nagar in the morning, his 18-year-old son Salman said.
“My father stepped out today at 5 am but, after some time, two men brought him on a scooter saying he had been thrashed. He had injuries on head and leg.”Salman, son of Ayub Shabbir, as quoted by PTI
Shabbir was brought to the GTB hospital and succumbed to injuries during treatment, added Salman, who was crying outside the emergency ward.

In the clarification, police also stated, "a telephone call was received on 28 February at PS Karawal Nagar by GTB Hospital that one Ayub (60 yrs) s/o Shabbir R/o Budh Bazar Nagar Colony, Loni, Gaziabad was admitted by his son Salman. Doctor declared him brought dead."

The death toll in Delhi's communal violence rose to 42 as clouds of smoke cleared to reveal the extent of the damage from the worst riots in the city in more than three decades and people gingerly stepped out for work and opened shops and other establishments.
