A reportedly “mentally unstable” man entered an HDFC bank outlet in Chandpur, Bijnor with fake bombs attached to a belt around his waist on Thursday, 5 April.
According to ANI, the man had been attempting to rob the bank but was caught by staff and handed over to the local police. The same report quoted the accused as stating that he was “facing a financial crisis” and “didn’t know what to do”.
On apprehending and questioning the accused, the police told ANI that he “seemed to be mentally unstable”.
Jaipur-based Hindi newspaper Patrika also said that while bank staff had initially been scared as to the intentions of the accused when he had entered with the ‘bombs’, they soon began to suspect that he might not be well. Its report also mentioned that the accused was reportedly undergoing treatment.
