On Tuesday, the Maharashtra government is going to hold a special cabinet meeting in Marathwada’s Aurangabad region – an annual feature – which will assume greater significance in the backdrop of unrest and floods in the region, reported Livemint.

A senior BJP leader in the area said “creation of job opportunities for youths in Marathwada, the flood situation, and damage to crops caused by incessant rains in the last week of September and start of October.”

On Monday, district collectors of all eight regions were asked by the government to do a preliminary survey of the crop damage.

The government is going to discuss the ongoing Maratha agitation but it’s unlikely that the demands will be met.

On 9 August, under the banner of Sakal Maratha Samaj, a host of Maratha organisations held silent protest marches to demand justice for a teenage girl, who was raped in Aurangabad.

A demand for a 16 percent reservation for Marathas and amendments to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act is being demanded, to stop the atrocities against the community.
