Congress and BJP Win Nine Seats Each, Independent Bags One
The race to the 19 civic bodies in Madhya Pradesh ended with Congress and BJP both bagging nine seats each. The remaining seat was won by an independent candidate, reported ANI.
Congress Wins Big in Raghogarh Nagar
The Congress won 20 of the 24 wards in Raghogarh Nagar palika elections in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP won only four wards. The counting for the by-elections for municipal bodies and panchayats is on since 9 am on Saturday.
In the run-up to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections later in 2018, the State Election Commission announced on Monday the by-elections for municipal bodies and panchayats. The polling began on 17 January, as reported by The Times of India.
Nineteen civic bodies went into polls. The term of candidates in Dhar, Barwani, Khandwa, Guna and Anuppur districts ended in September.
In Dhar district, election for Pithampur, Dhar and Manawar municipal councils and Sardarpur, Rajgarh, Dharampuri, Dhamnod, Kukshi and Dahi Nagar Parishad (town councils) will he held.
In Barwani district, election for Barwani and Sendhwa municipal council and Pansemal, Khetia, Palsud, Anjad and Rajpur Nagar Parishad will be held. In Khandwa district, polling will be held for Omkareshwar Nagar Parishad, in Guna district for Vijaypur-Raghogarh municipal council.
The commission also announced bypolls for Semaria Nagar Parishad in Rewa district and some wards in municipal councils of Singrauli and Sarni (Betul), Mandla, Sidhi, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Jhabua and Damoh, two wards in Satna and three wards of Balaghat.
Elections will be held in Akoda’s (Bhind) Nagar Parishad, Karnawad in Dewas district and Khilchipur in Rajgarh district after council presidents were recalled under Section 47, Sub-section 2 of the MP Municipality Act 1961.
In the 51 districts of the 5,435 posts, by-elections for 78 sarpanch, 17 janpad panchayat members, three district panchayat members, and general election for 90 sarpanch and 1,600 panch will also be held.
A model code of conduct is also applicable in all the municipal bodies from Monday, where the elections will be held. The results will be declared on 20 January.
