Lt General Anil Chauhan Replaces AK Bhatt as DGMO of Army

Chauhan succeeds Lt General AK Bhatt who will assume charge of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps.

Lt. General Anil Chauhan, who has vast experience in counter-insurgency operations, took charge as the new Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army on Tuesday, 30 January.

He succeeds Lt General AK Bhatt who will assume charge of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps.

Lt General Chauhan has held several important posts in the Army and is known for his expertise in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir, and the Northeast.

He was earlier commander of the Dimapur-based 3 Corps. Chauhan had been commissioned into the 11th Gorkha Rifles in 1981 and had also served as military observer for UN peacekeeping mission in Angola.

For his service to the Army, he has been given a number of awards These include the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (2018), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the Sena Medal, the Vishisht Seva Medal, reported Business Standard.

As DGMO, Lt General Chouhan will oversee various operations of the Indian Army including those along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

Lt General AK Bhatt, who earlier held this post, will take the role of the new commander of the 15 Corps, also called the ‘Chinar Corps’, while Lieutenant General JS Sandhu, who was in charge of the Srinagar-based unit before this, has been given the new rank of military secretary, reported Scroll.
