1. Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Dispute: The Complete Ayodhya Story

The Supreme Court held the final hearing in the Ayodhya land dispute case on Tuesday, 5 December, a day before the 25th anniversary of the demolition of the medieval-era mosque – the Babri Masjid.

A specially constituted bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer heard a total of 13 appeals filed against the 2010 judgement of the Allahabad High Court in four civil suits.

2. Jayalalithaa’s Death Anniversary: OPS-EPS Pay Tribute at Memorial

Last December, the city of Chennai came to a standstill when former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa passed away. A year on, the political void she left in Tamil Nadu, remains deep.

EPS and OPS paid tributes to their 'Amma' at her mausoleum on Marina Beach.

Sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran also took out a procession with his supporters and paid floral tributes at Jayalalithaa's mausoleum.

Clad in black shirts, AIADMK coordinator Pannneerselvam and co-coordinator Palaniswami led a silent march of party functionaries, including ministers, MPs and MLAs.

EPS and OPS placed a wreath at the memorial, where Jayalalithaa was laid to rest in December 2016.

3. The Inimitable Shashi Kapoor Passes Away at 79

Shashi Kapoor breathed his last in Mumbai on 4 December. The veteran actor was 79. He had been hospitalised at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. According to reports he was administered several rounds of dialysis while at the hospital.

"Yes, he has passed away. He had a kidney problem and was on dialysis for several years," his nephew Randhir Kapoor, the son of the late Raj Kapoor, told PTI.

Randhir Kapoor said the funeral would be held tomorrow morning.

"Shashi Kapoor expired at 5:20pm on 4 December at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai," Dr Ram Narain from the hospital told PTI.

Shashi Kapoor is survived by his sons Karan and Kunal, and daughter Sanjna. Kapoor got married to English actor Jennifer Kendal in 1958, who unfortunately died of cancer in 1984.

4. Pollution Hits Sri Lanka Again: Lakmal Leaves Field After Vomiting

The air pollution issue continued to simmer on the fourth day of the final Test between India and Sri Lanka, with the visiting seamer Suranga Lakmal vomiting on the field on Tuesday, 5 December.

After the visitors were bowled out for 373 in their first innings on the fourth day, they were seen wearing N95 anti-pollution masks – required to protect the lungs from the "very poor" air quality in Delhi.

Lakmal had bowled only three overs when he was seen vomiting on the field, prompting the physiotherapist to run to him. After consultation, the pacer went off the ground.
