1. Key NCP Meet Today

Amid the growing rift between allies BJP and Shiv Sena, the NCP is set to convene a key meeting of its newly-elected MLAs on Wednesday. NCP, which has so far maintained that it will sit in Opposition, would hold deliberations on the current political scenario in the state. The meeting is also likely to see discussions regarding who should lead the party in the Vidhan Sabha.

In the October 21 polls, the NCP had pipped the Congress for the third slot overall. In the event of BJP-Shiv Sena forming the government, it is set to get the key Leader of Opposition’s post in the new Assembly. In the recent elections, the NCP managed to win 54 seats compared to Congress’ 44.

2. Maharashtra MLAs’ Average Assets Doubled to ₹22.4 crore

Maharashtra has elected more crorepati MLAs in the recently concluded Vidhan Sabha elections than it did five years ago. Crucially, the average assets of the new MLAs more than doubled over the last five years to ₹22.4 crore. In 2014, the average assets of the 288 MLAs of Maharashtra was ₹10.8 crore. These were some of the key findings of an analysis conducted by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) of 285 MLAs who were elected on Thursday.

The ADR study excluded three MLAs —NCP leader Ajit Pawar, Independent MLA Kishor Jorgewar, and Shiv Sena MLA Tanaji Sawant — as their complete affidavits were not on the Election Commission’s website at the time of preparing the report.

3. Police Probes Inspector’s Farmhouse for Rape of Uzbek National

The Mumbai Police investigating allegations of murder against suspended police officer Bhanudas alias Anil Jadhav visited his Pune farmhouse on Sunday to look for skeletal remains of two persons alleged to be buried there. The mission turned out to be futile as the police could not zero-in on the exact spot at the five-acre plot at Parli village in Pune.

An Uzbek national had accused Jadhav of raping her and committing the murders. The Chembur police had registered a case of rape against Jadhav on October 11 after the woman approached the police saying that he had raped her over eight years. The woman also alleged that Jadhav had made her undergo two abortions and had a five-year-old son with her.
