13 Dead in Two Days of Venezuela Unrest: Rights Group

Thirteen people have died during two days of unrest in Venezuela amid protests against President Nicolas Maduro, a Caracas-based rights group reported on Thursday, 24 January.

The deaths, mostly from gunshot wounds, were recorded in the capital and across the country, the Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict told AFP.

Gunman Killed Five at US Bank: Police

A gunman killed at least five people on Thursday, 24 January, at a bank in Sebring, Florida in the southern United States, police said.

"We have at least five victims, people who were senselessly murdered," Police Chief Karl Hoglund told a news conference.

The alleged shooter, identified as a 21-year-old resident of Sebring, has been taken into custody, Hoglund said.

Trump Recognizes Venezuela Oppn Leader Guaido as 'Interim President'

US President Donald Trump has recognized Venezuela opposition leader Juan Guaido as the "interim president".

Venezuela's National Assembly head Juan Guaido declared himself the country's "acting president" on Wednesday, 23 January, during a mass opposition rally against leader Nicolas Maduro.

"I swear to formally assume the national executive powers as acting president of Venezuela to end the usurpation, (install) a transitional government and hold free elections," said Guaido as thousands of supporters cheered.
