1. ‘Airline Showed Little Concern About Us’
Two of the five Jet Airways passengers, who were examined at Nanavati hospital on Thursday after suffering nose and ear bleed in a Mumbai-Jaipur flight due to low cabin pressure after the crew “forgot” to turn on a control switch, have accused the airline of being unconcerned about their well-being.
Mukesh Sharma, 31, and Ankur Kala, 38, who were put up by Jet Airways at a hotel in Andheri East after being released from Nanavati, told Mirror on Friday that they were appalled at the lack of enquiries or follow-up calls from the carrier about their condition or plans of travelling back to Jaipur. While Sharma, a postdoctoral research scholar at the University of Aveiro in Portugal, claimed that tired of waiting, he called up the airline’s office and sought a train ticket to his hometown Ajmer, Kale said he was contacted only around Friday noon.
“After suffering a nightmare in the flight, the least I expected was a call, a text message or an e-mail from Jet Airways, seeking an update on my recovery and my plans for onward journey to my home city. But there were no enquiries till Friday afternoon. Disappointed, I dug out a number where the airline could be contacted and asked their staffer to arrange for a train ticket to Ajmer. I have been advised by the doctors at Nanavati to not fly at least a week,” said Sharma, whose homecoming got delayed because of flight fiasco.

2. Call For Compensation, FIR Against Crew
An NGO on Friday demanded compensation for those who suffered injuries due to low cabin pressure in a Mumbai-Jaipur flight on Thursday, besides approaching the Sahar police station seeking an FIR against the five crew members.
Led by social activists Nicholas Almeida and Godfrey Pimenta, the members of Watchdog Foundation staged protests outside the Jet Airways corporate office at Siroya Centre near the Mumbai international airport. The representatives submitted a memorandum to the airline, saying that it must give monetary compensation to those seriously injured and also bear the treatment expenses. In a memorandum submitted to Sahar police station, the NGO members demanded an FIR against the five crew members for “risking the lives of 166 passengers because of their gross negligence”.
“The bizarre incident could have been avoided. It appears that the crew of flight 9W 697 was not adequately trained and didn’t guide the passengers properly,” said Almeida.

3. After Minor Dies In Pune’s Hinjewadi Rape Case, 22-Year-Old Student And Teen Held In Custody On POCSO Charges
The two accused of raping two minor girls, one of whom succumbed to injuries suffered at the Sassoon hospital, were produced before judicial authorities on Thursday.
The two minor girls, who were allegedly raped by a man and a 16-year-old boy on September 16, were first taken to an isolated place in Hinjewadi when the girls were visiting a temple on Sunday afternoon, police said.
“It was a Sunday and they had gone to the (Sant Tukaram Maharaj) temple which is three-four km from their house. The two approached the girls and offered them chocolates and led them to the bushes,” assistant police inspector Sapna Devtale of Hinjewadi police station said.
A Pune court remanded 22-year-old Ganesh Nikam to five days police custody while the juvenile was sent to the observation home in Yerawada.

4. Maharashtra Govt to Launch Health Insurance Scheme Tomorrow
The Maharashtra government will launch the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme on Sunday. The scheme will be rolled out nationally and benefit 83.72 lakh families in the state, the government has said.
“The Ayushman Bharat and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, state government’s health scheme, will be implemented jointly,” said Deepak Sawant, the Minister for Public Health. He added that the scheme will be inaugurated at Sahyadri Guest House in the presence of Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Sawant said a few beneficiaries will be given e-cards during the inauguration. “As per the socio-economic and caste census of 2011, 83.72 lakh families have been selected for Ayushman Bharat and they will be entitled to get free medical treatment of Rs 5 lakh. They will get the Ayushman Bharat treatment in government hospitals and medical colleges. In the second phase, the private hospitals will be included,” Sawant said on Friday.

5. 3 Boys Saved From Drowning Off Aksa Beach
Quick thinking and presence of mind displayed by two lifeguards stationed at Aksa beach in Malad saved the lives of three boys on Friday afternoon.
Raherajun Rehman, 12, Ahzad Iqbal Sheikh, 15, and Rizwan Yakood Indresi, 13, all students of a madrassa in Malvani, were at the beach around 3 pm. According to the lifeguards on duty, like all visitors to the beach, the three were warned not to wade deep into the current.
“Most visitors don’t know that Aksa beach is full of island-like patches of land in many places, which makes it one of the most dangerous beaches in Mumbai. These boys also ended up being sucked by a current into the gap between two islands,” said Nathuram Suryavanshi, the lifeguard who saved the three boys from drowning along with colleague Swatej Kolambkar.

6. Sangli Police On The Lookout For City Doctor
A Sangli police team is in Mumbai to look for a doctor allegedly involved in an illegal sex determination tests and female foeticide racket. Mumbai-based medical practitioner Dr Swapnil Jamdade, according to Sangli Police, is absconding since the recent illegal abortion racket was busted in which two medical officers from Kolhapur and Sangli – anaesthetist Dr Vijaykumar Chougule and his gynaecologist wife Dr Rupali Chougule – were arrested on September 18.
The Chougules and Jamdade have been booked under sections 4(b), 5(3), 5(4) of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, 1971. According to Sangli Police, the Chougules and Jamdade conducted over 30 illegal terminations of pregnancies. Until Friday, 21 women had recorded their statements that they underwent abortions for carrying a girl child. The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) has temporarily suspended the Chougules from medical practice. “It is sad that these doctors are attached to a government hospital. We have sealed the hospital and seized all papers,” said a DHS officer.

7. Shetty Murder Case: Court Accepts CBI’s Final Report
The Pune sessions court on Friday accepted the final report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the murder case of RTI activist Satish Shetty. In its report, the agency had said no prosecutable evidence was found against four of the six accused in the case, including IRB Chairman and Managing Director Virendra Mhaiskar.
Mhaiskar and 12 others had been booked in connection with an alleged land scam on October 15, 2009, in a case filed by Shetty. The RTI activist soon started receiving death threats and he was murdered on January 13, 2010.
Shetty’s family is now planning to move the Bombay High Court against the sessions court order. “We will move the High Court against it,” said advocate Rohan Nahar, who is representing Sandeep Shetty, brother of the deceased RTI activist.
