1. Nothing Like Hindu Terror: Devendra Fadnavis
Defending his party’s decision to field Malegaon blast accused Pragya Singh Thakur in Bhopal, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the move is a riposte to those who insulted Hindus by coining the term Hindu terror. However, he added that Thakur should not have made the remarks against former Maharasthra anti-terrorist squad chief Hemant Karkare, who laid down his life for the country in the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai. Thakur said she had cursed Karkare for ill-treating her during her incarceration.

In 2004 Lok Sabha elections, a low-profile, unassuming Congress candidate Eknath Gaikwad emerged as a ‘giant killer’, defeating former chief minister and then Lok Sabha speaker Manohar Joshi from Mumbai South Central constituency. Fifteen years on, Gaikwad, 79, is hoping to repeat history, this time taking on the sitting Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale, who is 34 years younger to him.

3. Mehul Choksi Approaches Bombay HC, Says Not Avoiding Investigation
Absconding jeweller Mehul Choksi has approached the Bombay High Court stating that he had not deliberately avoided joining the investigation against him in the alleged Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case but was unable to return to India because of a medical condition.
Choksi has filed an appeal against the trial court’s order, where he has stated that his inability to return cannot be seen as refusal to return and hence, the provisions of the new legislature, Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, cannot be invoked against him.

4. Harbour Line Stalled as Overhead Wire Snaps
Lakhs of commuters travelling on the Harbour Line of the Mumbai suburban train network faced inconvenience on Wednesday morning as the down line (Vashi bound) overhead wire that supplies power to the trains snapped near Mankhurd station.
After two hours of efforts, the Central Railway restored the power supply and resumed suburban services from 8.10 am. The direct services between Navi Mumbai and CSMT were suspended from around 6.10 am, when the overhead wire snapped.

5. Two Arrested for ‘Duping’ 40 People on Pretext of Getting Them Overseas Jobs
Two men were arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of getting them jobs overseas. Police said the accused had cheated more than 40 people.
“The complainant in the matter, Vikram Bhati, got a visa and work permit for Malaysia and later realised it was a fake, when he reached the country and faced issues; he was eventually deported,” said a officer from Chitalsar police station, where the FIR was lodged.
