1. After Maharashtra, Shiv Sena Looks to Topple BJP Govt in Goa

After successfully blocking the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena now wants to oust the former ally from power in the neighbouring Goa, by forging an alliance with Vijay Sardesai’s Goa Forward Party.

“After Maharashtra, it is Goa, and then we will go to other states. We want to make a non-BJP political front in this country,” Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut told reporters in Mumbai on Friday morning.

2. Uddhav Thackeray May Not Move Into CM Residence

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray may not move into his official residence. 

In a departure from practice, chief minister Uddhav Thackeray is unlikely to move into his official residence, ‘Varsha’, in Malabar Hill. A day after he took oath as the chief minister, the Sena chief indicated he would use the official home for meetings as and when required.

It was expected that Thackeray, with his wife, Rashmi, and sons, Aaditya and Tejas, could move into the official residence by next week. The chief minister’s residence has a fully functional office and a large conference room for him to carry out official work and hold meetings.

3. Plea in Bombay HC on Leadership of Dawoodi Bohra Sect: American Expert Examined

An American academic and expert in Islamic history was on Thursday the latest witness to be examined in the Bombay High Court, where two factions are locked in a battle to be declared the leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community.

In June 2014, the plaintiff, Khuzaima Qutubuddin had filed a suit in the High Court, seeking to be declared as the 53rd Da’i-al-Mutlaq of the community and challenging the claim of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the son of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, to the leadership. He has claimed in his suit that his half-brother, Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin, the 52nd Da’i who passed away in January 2014, had conferred Nass (pronounced him as the successor) in 1965 in secret.

4. Mumbai Tree Authority: Contractors yet to Complete Trimming Trees, Had Already Been Paid

MEMBERS OF the Tree Authority have alleged that despite being paid by the gardens department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), contractors appointed for trimming trees were yet to complete their task at several locations. Corporators have alleged that BMC officials made bogus bills to benefit contractors and have demanded action against them.

The civic body has appointed 24 contractors for trimming trees across the city on a contract of Rs 90 crore over the next two years. However, this monsoon, five persons died in tree collapse incidents.

5. Son of Hotelier Found Hanging From Ceiling

A 37-year-old man was found hanging from the ceiling of a lodge in Andheri on Friday morning. Police later identified him as Vaibhav Shetty, the son of a Mulundbased hotelier. An accidental death record has been registered by DN Nagar police.
