1. Man Kills Labourer, Burns Body to Fake His Own Death for Insurance Claims; Nabbed

A man faked his death allegedly for making insurance claim, but ran out of luck as the police nabbed him on suspicion that he had killed a labourer and burnt his body in his car.

Aakash, a resident of Chandigarh, was arrested on Tuesday, 4 December, from Palwal Railway Station in a joint operation of the Sirmour Police and the Government Railway Police, Haryana, Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Rohit Malpani said on Wednesday.

Prima facie, Aakash and his family wanted to grab the huge life insurance money, the value of which will be estimated after further investigation and interrogation of the accused, the SP said.

2. Bank Manager Pilfers Rs 27 L From Bizman’s Acount, Held

A senior manager of one of the leading private banks has been arrested for allegedly pilfering Rs 26.50 lakh from a customer’s account. The police said that they arrested Kalpana Mohite (36) as transactions in the customer’s reflected her involvement in the crime.

The fraud come to light when a businessman, Paresh Patel, who has a savings bank account at this bank’s Fort branch since 2016, found that the balance had dwindled to zilch.

The police said that Patel did not keep a regular check on the funds in this account as he had authorised an asset management company to utilise the funds in that account and invest them in lucrative equity schemes.

3. Man Booked for Raping Minor Girl in Goa

A 50-year-old man has been booked for allegedly raping a minor girl in Goa, police said.

The accused, a Goa resident who has been working abroad, left India soon after committing the offence in October, Margao Police Inspector Kapil Nayak said on Tuesday, 4 December.

The 14-year-old girl was raped repeatedly between 15 and 20 October by the accused residing in her neighbourhood at Sirlim village in South Goa district, he said.

The matter came to light on Tuesday when the girl informed her mother about offence following which the latter filed a police complaint, he said.

4. 70-Year-Old Woman Dies After Tempo Runs Over Her in Malad; Driver Held

A 70-year-old woman died after being run over by a speeding tempo at Malad (West) on Wednesday, 5 December. The tempo driver has been arrested.

The victim – identified as Laxmi Gupta – was crossing the road when the tempo knocked her down. She suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital, where she was declared dead on admission.

“Gupta did not notice the tempo while crossing the road. Even the tempo driver was not paying attention,” said an officer from Malad police station. “The driver did not flee the spot and he has been arrested.”

5. Sinthee Woman Slaps Rape Charge on Husband

A recently married man has been booked for rape after his wife accused him of forcing her to have sex with him against her consent. She has also lodged complaints of dowry demand and torture against her in-laws.

The woman, a resident of Sinthee, approached the court to register a case after she claimed the physical assault continued even after she got pregnant. The legal fraternity said this was one of the first cases of domestic abuse, where a woman has slapped rape charges on her husband.

Police investigations have found that when the wedding was fixed, the woman’s family was told that the man was a senior official at a private bank.

6. Armed Men Rob Cash Collection Agents of Rs 39 Lakh in West Delhi

Four cash collection agents were robbed of Rs 39 lakh at gunpoint by three unidentified bike-borne men in west Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Wednesday, 5 December.

Police said the two men intercepted the agent’s car and fired two shots in the car to scare them before fleeing with the cash bag. Efforts were being made to identify them, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place around 10:30 am. The four men who were travelling in the car – Anil Kumar (27), Mohammad Arshad (44), Praveen Kumar (45) and Bhupendra Sharma (29) – work for a private firm in Ranjeet Nagar.

7. Taxi Driver Found Murdered Near Hospital in Jahangirpuri

A 28-year-old taxi driver was murdered in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri over suspected personal enmity on Tuesday, 4 December, police said.

According to the police, around 11 pm on Tuesday, passersby informed that a man was lying unconscious near the main gate of Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) Hospital.

A police team reached the spot and the man was rushed to the hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

8. Man Who Cheated 31 People of Rs 4.7 Cr Arrested in Gujarat

The Goregaon police on Wednesday, 5 December, arrested a 36-year-old stockbroker from Gujarat for allegedly duping 31 people of Rs 4.79 crore, after he convinced them to invest their money in equities for large returns.

The accused has been identified as Vipul Makhwana, who is from Petlad in Gujarat.

Makhwana, a graduate degree holder, met Chintan Makhwana (not related to accused) in 2015 through mutual friends and convinced him to invest in certain stocks which would give large returns.

Gradually, Makhwana managed to rope in 30 other people to invest their money in the stock market and collected a total of Rs 4.79 crore from 2015 to 2018.

9. 17 Rounds Fired Near Metro Station, Top Gangster Held

There was high drama at Dhaula Kuan metro station late on Tuesday, 4 December, when personnel of Delhi Police’s Special Cell exchanged gunfire with a group of criminals travelling in a Hyundai Creta. While Jitender Bhanja, a top city gangster, was nabbed, at least three others managed to flee from the spot.

Around 17 rounds were exchanged in the shootout that lasted 12 minutes. DCP Sanjeev Yadav said that Bhanja was involved in more than 25 criminal cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery and carjacking in Delhi and Haryana. There was a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for his arrest.
