1. BrahMos Engineer Arrested For Allegedly Leaking Missile Info To ISI
An engineer working at the BrahMos Missile Research Centre in Nagpur was arrested on Monday, 8 October, on charges of spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI and other countries.
Nishant Agrawal, the arrested scientist, is suspected to have leaked information about India’s BrahMos missile, police said.
Agrawal was arrested in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS) in Ujjal Nagar. His home and the Brahmos Aerospace office in Dongargaon, 40 km south of Nagpur, were searched.
Agrawal is a senior system engineer with Brahmos Aerospace.
Media reports claim Agrawal was arrested based on inputs given by a member of the Hizbul Mujahideen group who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS in Kanpur a few days ago. He is suspected of working for ISI and American intelligence agencies and passing on secrets related to the BrahMos missile to these countries.

2. Auto Driver Killed In Spat Over Night Charge
A 26-year-old auto driver was stabbed to death allegedly by four juveniles at Kasturba Gandhi Marg on 7 October, following an argument regarding extra night fare. The victim, Jahangir Alam, was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in a police vehicle, where he died during treatment.
“Information was received at 11:32 pm that an auto driver in a wounded condition was found in front of N-Block of Connaught Place (CP) Outer Circle. An FIR has been registered at Parliament Street police station. The four alleged perpetrators have been taken into custody and the butter knife used in the murder has been recovered.” DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said.
According to the accused, the altercation began when Jahangir asked for an extra Rs 20 per person as night charge.
As the argument grew heated, one of the accused pulled out a knife and stabbed Jahangir in the neck and waist in the moving vehicle.

3. Man Hires Contract Killers To Kill Father Over Money
A 37-year-old man and his two accomplices have been arrested for allegedly killing his father for refusing to give him money for gambling, police said on Monday, 8 October.
Gaurav Khera and his accomplices – Vishal Garg and Suhan Khan – were arrested from Delhi’s Azadpur area on 7 October. According to the police, Anil Khera, a businessman and resident of Model Town, went for a business meeting at Rajindra Nagar in Uttar Pradesh’s Sahibabad on 21 May.
On the same day, when Anil came out from the factory, he was gunned down by two assailants riding a motorcycle. After firing multiple shots at him from close range, they fled from the spot. Anil was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Thereafter, a case was registered at Sahibabad police station and investigation was taken up. The nearby CCTV cameras were scanned. “On 7 October, police received information that the victim’s son had organised the killing,” said Ajit Singla, Deputy Commissioner of police (Crime).

4. 6-Year-Old Girl Found Dead On Roof Of Mosque, Police Confirms Rape
A six-year-old girl, who had gone missing outside her house in Uttar Pradesh’s Muradnagar on 6 October, was found raped and murdered the next day.
Her body was spotted on the roof of a mosque in her locality falling under the jurisdiction of the Muradnagar police station. The police confirmed that she had been raped after they received the results of the autopsy.
“The autopsy report confirmed that there was sexual assault and she died of strangulation,” Vaibhav Krishna, senior superintendent of police (SSP), said.
The police have formed teams and trying to trace the suspects.
“The family has alleged that their neighbours are involved in the murder. The suspects, including the councillor, are on the run. We are investigating the case in detail and are probing all angles. Teams have been formed to trace the suspects, so we can question them,” SSP Krishna added.

5. Minors Kill Youth, Stab His 2 Cousins
A youth was stabbed to death and his two cousins were seriously injured by three minors over an old rivalry in Thane. Police have arrested two of the accused, one of who is 16, while the third, who is 17 years old, is still at large.
On Monday, 8 October the duo was produced before a juvenile justice court in Bhiwandi, which sent them to a remand home. Police identified the deceased as Vishal Mishra, who lived in Ulhasnagar. His cousins, Aakash and Sunny Jha, were first admitted to Central hospital, but were later shifted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj hospital in Kalwa.
Police said 15 days ago, Aakash and the main accused had a dispute near Gol Maidan; later they settled the issue. But on 7 October, around 11:30 pm, the accused had another argument with Aakash, who called his cousins for help.
One of the accused, who had a knife, stabbed the three youths. Vishal died on the spot, while Aakash and Sunny suffered abdomen injuries.

6. Punjab Cops Booked For Selling Poppy
The Moga police (Punjab) have booked four policemen including an inspector for allegedly embezzling 300 kg poppy husk recovered in a drug case and selling it for ‘monetary profits’. The cops allegedly mixed cattle feed in 500 kg of total recovered poppy husk and embezzled more than half of total recovery.
Nihal Singh Wala DSP Subeg Singh said that an enquiry conducted by STF AIG Snehdeep Sharma has indicted four cops of embezzling the poppy husk.
He said that four cops had recovered 5.25 quintals (525 kilograms) of poppy husk in a case in May last year. An enquiry was marked and FIR has been registered after the cops have been indicted in the enquiry report.
The booked policemen include Inspector Gurpyar Singh (former SHO Badhni Kalan police station), head constables Resham Singh and Lal Singh and constable Gurdeep Singh. All four were posted at Badhni Kalan police station of Moga in May last year when the incident happened.

7. Former BJD MLA Held For Assaulting Woman & Her Mother
A former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA was arrested on Monday, 8 October on charges of assaulting a woman and her mother in Kandhamal district, police said.
Devendra Kanhar was arrested from Andhra Pradesh on the basis of an FIR lodged by the woman at Phulbani Sadar police station on 2 September, Superintendent of Police of Kandhamal, Prateek Singh, said.
When produced before a court here, the former Phulbani MLA was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Kanhar, however, denied the allegation and claimed that he had surrendered and was not absconding.
The incident could have happened owing to some personal rivalry, the police officer said. A sex video purportedly featuring Kanhar had also gone viral on social media around the same time, making the entire episode more controversial.

8. Caretaker ‘Tried To Rape Woman Before Killing Her’’
Two days after a woman’s body was found outside a vacant house in Vivek Vihar, police said two persons had allegedly tried to force themselves on her before strangling her to death. Police said one of the accused, Sushil Chowkidar, was arrested from east Delhi on Monday, 8 October.
DCP (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said Sushil was the caretaker of the house and knew the victim. During questioning, Sushil told police that the house owner has been living in Canada for the past 15 years.
“On 5 October, Sushil’s relative came to the house. Later, the woman also paid a visit. The two men tried to force themselves on her. When she resisted, they strangled her and disposed of the body outside the house,” said DCP Yadav.
Police said CCTV footage from the spot showed the two men dragging the body from the house. After dumping it, they fled on a motorbike.

9. Mexico Serial Murder Couple Admit Killing 20 Women
A couple detained in Mexico while transporting human body parts in a baby carriage have admitted killing 20 women, twice the number originally suspected, Mexican media reported Monday, 8 October.
The man also admitted raping some of the women and selling some of their body parts, said the newspaper El Universal, citing a prosecution report on his interrogation.
The man admitted to investigators that the couple had killed at least 20 people, according to prosecution documents presented at his initial court appearance inside a local prison.
"He stated that he had sexually abused some of the women before killing them and later sold their remains, as well as their belongings," the newspaper reported.
The couple have also reportedly admitted to selling the two-month-old baby of one of their victims to another couple, who were also arrested.
The case has triggered shock in Mexico, even by the standards of a country plagued by a surge in violent crime.
