1. 51-Year-Old Constable Assaults 30-Year-Old Biker, Bites Him on Ear

A 51-year-old police constable was booked for allegedly biting the ear of a 30-year-old man and assaulting him in a road rage incident at Dadar, resulting in the victim getting six stitches.

According to the Bhoiwada police, Amol Pol, who works with a pharmaceutical company, was on his way to Dadar railway station on his motorcycle to pick up his parents around 8pm on Sunday, 9 December. Pol got into an argument with Shivaji Sawant.

Pol had honked at Sawant, who is posted with Kalachowkie station, as he was allegedly seated on a bike in the middle of the road, blocking the way, near Kailash Lassi centre.

According to the police, Sawant abused Pol.

“I told Sawant to mind his language. This angered him further as he then bit my left ear and hit my head with his motorcycle keys,” said Pol.

2. Four Arrested for Robbery in Connaught Place

With the arrest of four men, the police on Tuesday, 11 December, busted a gang of robbers who allegedly stole articles after breaking the glass window of parked vehicles around Connaught Place.

The accused have been identified as Varun (27), Vikas (19), Kishore (25) and Babu (34), they said.

A police team was constituted after two consecutive incidents of bag-lifting by breaking the glass windows of parked vehicles in Connaught Place was reported, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the accused were apprehended from Inderpuri area early in the morning while they were trying to dispose off the stolen articles, a senior police officer said.

3. Snatcher Slashes Woman’s Fingers with Paper Cutter

A 43-year-old woman got injured in three of her fingers while resisting a snatching bid by two men on a bike on Press Enclave Road near Saket on Monday, 10 December, at 4pm. The woman, travelling in an autorickshaw with her son and sister-in-law, was on her way to visit a family member admitted in a private hospital.

The victim, Shalini Garg, lives in Sangam Vihar of south Delhi. Her son, Ashish, said that when they reached Press Enclave Road, they saw a bike moving along the autorickshaw.

“We were going to see my uncle who is admitted in a critical condition in the hospital. The pillion rider suddenly tried to snatch my mother’s bag, which was in her lap. However, she held onto the strap and didn’t let go,” Ashish said.

4. Thieves Cut Store’s Roof, Steal Jewellery Worth Crores in Gurugram

A group of thieves allegedly broke into a jewellery store in Sector 14 by cutting a hole in the concrete roof of the strong room on the intervening night of Sunday, 9 December, and Monday, 10 December, and stole gold and diamond ornaments, police said.

The value of the jewellery stolen had not been estimated till reports last came in. Multiple officers who visited the spot pegged the loss around Rs 20 crore, but there was no official confirmation of the same.

The theft took place even as two private security personnel were posted outside the jewellery store that night. According to the police, the guards were unaware of the theft, which was reported by the store when she came in next morning.

“Thieves cut through the roof of the strong room at PC Jewellers. We are yet to establish the total worth of the stolen ornaments,” assistant commissioner of police (crime) Shamsher Singh said, adding that the police were yet to identify the accused.

5. Woman Raped, Killed in Meerut: Police

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped and killed by unidentified persons at a village in Meerut Monday evening, 10 December. Her half-naked body was recovered on Tuesday morning, 11 December, from the Meerut-Dehradun highway. Her face was disfigured by the killers, police said.

“The killers probably used bricks to disfigure her face. The body was spotted by a local on Tuesday morning and he informed the police. The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case against unidentified persons has been lodged. She must have identified the killers as a result of which they killed her,” said Akhilesh Bhadauria, Deputy SP (Daurala).

Villagers, who later identified the woman, refused to hand over the body to the police till her family was paid adequate compensation and the killers were arrested. She belonged to a very poor family and had gone to collect woods on Monday when the incident took place, police said.

Gurugram School Bus Conductor Jailed for Sexual Assault

A 21-year-old bus conductor of a well-known private school in the city has been awarded 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 for sexually assaulting a four-year-old kindergarten student around two years ago.

The child was returning home on a school bus with other kids on an August day in 2016 when Shambhu (23) sexually assaulted her, triggering outrage among parents with several groups starting social media campaigns expressing concerns over safety of children.

Additional sessions judge Rajni Yadav, in her order passed on Monday, 10 December held Shambhu guilty under the POCSO Act, making it one of the few cases wherein court awarded 20 years of imprisonment to an accused of digital rape of a child.

7. Woman ‘Duped’ of Rs 3 Lakh for Govt Job, One Arrested

Bidhannagar Police on Tuesday, 11 December, arrested a man for allegedly cheating an unemployed woman of Rs 3 lakh by promising her a post in the state health department.

Police sources said the complainant had failed in her previous attempts to get a government job following which the accused, Gobinda Ghosh, took money from her in exchange for a fake appointment letter.

“On December 10, at around 7.05 pm, we received a complaint from Saibal Chakraborty, the Secretary & Controller of Examinations of the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board. The accused was arrested and has been remanded to police custody for seven days,” said Amit Javalgi, DC (headquarters), Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

8. Techie Thrashed by ‘Drunk’ Men

A 30-year-old software engineer working with a private firm in Gurugram was allegedly thrashed by four men in Dwarka’s Bindapur on Sunday night, 9 December.

The police said on Tuesday, 11 December, that a case has been registered but no arrests have been made so far.

The victim, who did not wish to be named, claimed he was brutally beaten up by four “drunk” men when he asked one of them to “walk carefully.”

The victim said he has a fractured eye socket, besides sustaining injuries on the forehead and lips.

The techie said he had gone to buy medicines for his mother when the incident happened around 10 pm.

9. Ex-Student of Govt Engineering College Alleges Rape; 11 Booked

Chandrapur Police have registered an FIR against 11 persons, including some lecturers and staffers of the government engineering college after a former student has accused them of raping her in 2011, an official said on Tuesday, 11 December.

The victim, now 30, had studied at the said college in year 2011.

Police Inspector Ashok Koli told PTI that the case was registered with Ram Nagar police station on December 6.

"We have registered a case under section 376 (Punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused persons", he said.

He didn't elaborate on the circumstances under which the alleged crime was committed.

When asked about the course of investigation, Koli said the police are trying to identify the persons named in the FIR.
