1. Baby-Selling Racket in Mumbai: 3 More Held, 2 Kids Rescued

The Mumbai crime branch on Sunday arrested three more persons from Antop Hill for their alleged involvement in a baby-selling racket busted earlier this month. Two boys, aged four years and eight years, respectively, were also rescued.

The accused arrested on Sunday are Lahu Nivatkar, 52; Preeti Shitap, 42; and Suraiya Khan, 37 — all Antop Hill residents. The biological parents of both the boys rescued have not been traced yet. “We have been inquiring with the accused, but they are not revealing the addresses and names of the real parents,” said Aparna Joshi, inspector, unit-6 and the investigating officer.

Since 1 July, officers of unit-6 have arrested 14 people — including an all-women gang, and a few parents — in the case for allegedly buying, kidnapping babies or selling them. The police have so far rescued six boys — four from the city and two from Delhi.

2. In Delhi, 22-Yr-Old Stabbed to Death for Trying to Resist Snatching

A 22-year-old man was stabbed to death on the Ring Road across the street from Defence Colony police station in south Delhi on Saturday night, allegedly for resisting an attempt to snatch his cellphone. Two persons, one of whom investigators suspect may be a minor, have been apprehended, the police said.

The victim, identified as Shyam Bodh Sah, a chef at a restaurant in Defence Colony, was cycling back home after work when he was stopped by the two suspects in front of a subway exit, police said.

“He may have been desperate to save his cellphone because he purchased it two years ago using his bonus money and could not afford a new one,” said Shyam’s cousin, Ramlakhan Sah, an assistant at a pharmacy.

3. Rajasthan Constable Beaten to Death; CM Ashok Gehlot Orders Probe

The Rajasthan police on Sunday arrested four people for fatally assaulting a police head constable in Rajsamand district on Saturday evening.

According to Rajsamand Superintendent of Police Bhuvan Bhushan, Head Constable Abdul Gani, in his early 40s, was attacked by one the two groups he was investigating with regard to a fight between two women. Following a dispute with her neighbour Naina Devi, one Kamla Devi had filed a police complaint at the Bhim Police station, which falls under the district’s Bhim block.

The police was also quoted by PTI saying the incident was not a lynching and that the killing was a conspiracy.

4. FIR Filed Against Kolkata Metro Authority for Causing Death Due to Negligence

Kolkata Police registered an FIR against the Metro authority on Sunday, a day after the death of a 66-year-old passenger, whose hand had got stuck in the train door and was dragged for nearly 60 metres as it started moving. An unnatural death case was registered on Saturday. However, new IPC sections were added following a complaint filed by the family of the deceased, Sajal Kumar Kanjilal, at Kasba police station.

“A case has been filed under sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Investigation is on,” Joint Commissioner of Police Praveen Tripathy told The Indian Express.

The incident took place at Park Street station at 6.40 pm on Saturday when Kanjilal, a resident of Kasba area, was trying to board a Kabi Subhash-bound train.

5. Techie Stabbed to Death in Delhi for Resisting Robbery

A 39-year-old IT professional was stabbed to death inside a car for resisting a robbery by a gang that used a woman as “bait” in West Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

The body of the victim, Bhupender Birdi, was found in a semi-naked condition with stab wounds inside the car, said Monika Bhardwaj, deputy commissioner of police (west).

The police have nabbed three of the four suspects, including a woman who allegedly claimed to be a minor but whose Aadhaar card shows her to be over 18. “We are checking her school records to ascertain her age,” said the DCP.

6. Thief Steals Bizman’s Bank Details, ID Card Data, Siphons Off Rs 3.3 Crore

The cyber police on Saturday arrested a man for stealing over Rs 3.3 crore from a businessman’s bank account using a fraudulently-obtained SIM card through which he received OTPs for transactions.

The businessman, a publisher of school books, approached the police on July 12 after realizing that he had been cheated during July 7-9. The cyber cell used the digital trail of the transactions to zero in on the accused, Amanatullah Shaikh (33), a Govandi resident in Mumbai.

7. Pregnant Woman Stabbed to Death in Ghatkopar

A four-month pregnant woman was stabbed to death near an autorickshaw stand in Ghatkopar on Saturday night. The victim, Meenakshi Chaurasia (20), a resident of Shivpuri chawl in Ghatkopar (east), was married to Brijesh Chaurasia, who runs a paan shop. The two had a love marriage in February this year.

Locals said that they spotted the woman, dressed in a red saree, lying near a bench on a foothpath, with blood around her neck, around 7am on Sunday. They informed the police who rushed to the spot. The body was sent for an autopsy to Rajwadi Hospital.

A police officer said, “She left her home around 10pm on Saturday saying she was going to see her father who lived in Matunga. There were eight stab wounds around her neck and head.”

8. Drunk Man Speaks Ill of Neighbour’s Wife, Killed

A 28-year-old hotel employee was strangled to death at his house by a neighbour in Channasandra, near Rajarajeshwarinagar in Bengaluru, past Saturday midnight. The neighbour, with help from an acquaintance, later abandoned the body on the road before fleeing.

Rajarajeshwarinagar police said Shivaraj C, a resident of Channasandra and from Channapatna in Ramanagara district, was found dead near his residence by passersby around 8am on Sunday.

Police said the incident took place around 12.30am. Preliminary probe revealed Shivaraj, who worked in Kaapi Katte hotel, Rajarajeshwarinagar, lived with a woman, Nagamma. Her friend identified as Shivu, a resident of Kalasipalya, came to their residence on Saturday evening. Shivaraj took objection to Shivu’s arrival and the couple had a fight over the matter.

9. 22-Year-Old Held for Murder of Man in Vashi

Three days after the body of a man, with his throat slit, was found behind Vashi railway station in Navi Mumbai, the police on Sunday arrested a 22-year old man.

The arrested accused, Asfaque Shaikh, is a resident of Mankhurd.

The victim, identified as Vijay alias Darasingh Malle, 30, was found with a cutter in one of his hands. “Malle was a scrap vendor and resided at a slum in Govandi,” said an officer from Vashi police station.
