1. Cops Seize 1,000 kgs of Marijuana Worth Rs 2 Crore

The Delhi Police has arrested three men and seized a truck from which more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana were recovered. According to them, the value of the seized contraband is Rs 2 crore. The drug was concealed in special cavities in the truck.

The police said the marijuana was being transported to Delhi for sale from remote areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

The police have identified the three men as Manoj Kumar (42), Sayyad Alam (38) and Narender Shah (40), all residents of Bihar. The deputy commissioner of police (crime) G Ram Gopal Naik said they had received information that a gang involved in supplying marijuana would arrive in Delhi early Thursday, 11 April.

2. Mumbai Stall Owner Fined Rs 5 Lakh After Lab Tests Find E Coli in Juice

Central Railway has imposed Rs 5 lakh fine on a lemon juice stall owner at Kurla rail station after test reports confirmed presence of bacteria E.coli in the samples.

A video of unhygienic preparation of juice in the stall, named Chantoo Lal and Sons, on platform number 6/7, had gone viral, following which the railways had sent a sample of the juice for testing. The report found that the juice was unsafe due to the presence of E.coli — bacteria that can cause several stomach infections. The report was submitted before Central Railway on Friday. Chief PRO, Sunil Udasi, confirmed that a fine of Rs 5 lakh was imposed on the licensee.

3. Man Held for Allegedly Raping Minor Stepdaughter

A man was arrested for allegedly raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter in Manesar on Thursday. The police said the girl’s mother, who is from Uttar Pradesh and works in the city, told them that she had married the suspect after her first husband died.

According to the police, the incident took place on the afternoon of 9 March, when the mother had gone for work. In the police complaint, she said, “When I returned, my older daughter told me that her stepfather had raped her. I fought with him and he started to beat me. When I tried to call the police, he snatched my phone and ran away,” she said.

The police said the suspect returned to the house on 11 April and the woman immediately reported it to the police control room. A police officer, requesting anonymity, said the suspect was arrested on Thursday night and sent to judicial custody.

4. Two Women Arrested for ‘Kidnapping’ 3-Yr-Old Girl

Mumbai police on Thursday, 11 April, arrested two women for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old girl, Fatima Shaikh.

According to the police, one of the accused, Meera Kale, had allegedly picked up the girl and handed her over to her sister-in-law, Meena Chavan, a resident of south Mumbai. Kale has told the police that Chavan was childless and hence she had kidnapped the child for her.

The police said that the child’s mother had approached the police after she went missing from Bandra.

5. Man Beaten to Death for Entering Farmhouse, Guards Held

A man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of guards and labourers after he entered a farmhouse at Ghoga village near Narela Industrial Area on Thursday night, 11 April.

The guards claimed to have caught him trying to sneak into a room. The man was tied up and thrashed till he fell unconscious. Cops identified the guards from CCTV footage and caught them later. The deceased man is yet to be identified.

DCP (outer, north) Gaurav Sharma said that police were informed about a thief being caught inside the farmhouse. When cops reached the spot, they found the man locked in a room. He was in a semi-conscious state and was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

6. Man Held for Stealing 59 Cheques Worth Over Rs 46 Lakh from Bank in Mumbai

Kandivali police on Wednesday, 10 April, arrested a disabled man for allegedly stealing 59 cheques, worth Rs 46.33 lakh, from a co-operative bank.

According to the police, complainant Abhish Khare, an employee of the bank, had approached them Monday after the cheques reportedly went missing from the bank’s counter. In his complaint, Khare said a person had come to the bank to collect his passbook and had left after showing his Aadhaar card.

“We checked the CCTV cameras installed in the bank and saw the accused picking up the bundle of cheques from counter number 4 and walking away,” a police officer said. Investigators obtained his details from footage of the Aadhaar card and traced him on Facebook.

“On finding a profile with his picture, we sent a friend request to one of his friend and asked for the culprit’s residential address,” an investigator said.

7. Man Shot, Two Bystanders Injured

A 55-year-old man was shot dead and two women were injured when gunmen opened fire at a crowded market in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur on Friday night, 12 April. Prima facie personal enmity was the reason behind the attack. The women suffered injuries on their legs from the ricocheted bullets.

Witnesses said that gunmen opened fire at the victim, Nafees, when he was returning from a mosque near J-block at 9 pm. The assailants fired at him multiple times till he succumbed. They then threatened the onlookers and fled.

The women, Anita and Bhagwati, who were returning home with groceries suffered injuries on their right legs during the firing. They were taken to a hospital by the local residents. They would undergo surgeries to get the bullets removed.

8. Action Against Musclemen Trying to Interrupt LS Polls

In a meeting on Friday, 12 April, the Delhi Police commissioner instructed senior officers to ensure strict action against musclemen trying to interrupt Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, implement anti-terror measures and crack down on illicit arms and liquor.

All the deputy commissioners of police, additional deputy commissioners of police, assistant commissioners of police, station house officers and division officers of northern range attended the meeting along with the special commissioner of police (law and order) north as well as joint commissioner of police.

At the meeting, police commissioner Amulya Patniak said the Delhi Police are initiating measures in order to ensure safe and uninterrupted general elections. He told his officers that apart from the crackdown against illicit liquor and fire arms, anti-terror measures that are already in place must be stepped up.

9. Gangster Out to Shoot Rival at Rohini Hospital Arrested

Panic ensued at a hospital in Rohini on Friday, 12 April, after an armed gangster entered and tried to kill a rival gang member who was in police custody. However, the policemen escorting the criminal pinned down the shooter before he could open fire. The situation was soon brought under control and the shooter, Prasenjit Jha (23) alias Chikna, was arrested and booked for attempt to murder.

Sources said the policemen got some time to respond as the shooter’s pistol got jammed. Jha works for jailed gangster Sunil Maan alias Tillu. The target, Karambir Kaju, is a gang member of Delhi’s most wanted gangster, Jitender Gogi.

The high-voltage drama unfolded at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital around 1pm. Kaju had been arrested by Haryana’s CIA unit in another case and cops from K N Katju police station in Rohini had obtained his remand on 9 April in connection with the murder of a restaurant owner, Anil Maan, in January.
