1. Mumbai Man Murdered While Heading for Namaz, Three Arrested

The Deonar police have booked three people in the murder case of a 29-year-old man who was brutally killed after he had an argument with the accused.

The accused had earlier been involved in a dispute with the group, and on Friday, 1 June, the trio continued to argue with him as he made his way for prayers at a nearby mosque.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Ahmed Hussain Shaikh, a resident of Gautam Nagar, near Sunni Masjid, Govandi.

The complainant Akhtar Hussain Shaikh, 25, the brother of Ahmed, told the police in his statement that the incident took place on 1 June at around 10.30 am when Ahmed was making his way through a narrow lane to reach the mosque.

2. UP Sand Mafia Tries to Mow Down SDM

A sub-divisional magistrate of Gunnaur in Sambhal had a narrow escape early on Sunday, 3 June, as the sand mining mafia tried to mow him down with tractor trolleys.

SDM Dipendra Yadav was trying to stop illegal mining operations near a tributary of the river Ganga when he was almost run over by sand-laden vehicles. Yadav dodged the approaching vehicles by jumping into a ditch on the side of the road and informed the police about the incident.

Yadav said that since they had checked illegal sand mining from Ganga riverbeds, the mafia had started mining near river Mahava, a tributary of Ganga, which has no water nowadays.

3. Noida: Girl Pushed From Roof Last Year Goes Missing

An 18-year-old girl who was in coma for five months after being pushed from the first-floor of a building in May last year has been reported missing since Thursday, 31 May.

Manisha Shah’s mother Anita said her daughter had scored 94 percent in her Class 12 exams and wanted to study in Delhi University. She had left home on Thursday to meet a friend and has since been missing.

“After her repeated requests, I had asked one of her seniors to help her in filling an admission form for BSc (Hons) at Delhi University. But around 1pm on Thursday, her friend Sulekha informed us that she had left her home saying she wanted to meet another friend, Somya, who stays in the same locality. She did not return,” the homemaker said.

4. Two African Citizens Held in Delhi for Duping Odisha Woman

The cyber cell of Odisha crime branch on Sunday, 3 June, arrested two African nationals from Delhi on charges of duping a woman in Bhubaneswar of Rs 10.49 lakh on the pretext of sending her costly gifts from America.

The woman, who refused to be identified, works as a clerk at Jharpada special jail.

The accused were identified as Zouzou Alex (34) from Dalola Gbibele city of Ivory Coast, and Austine Erikume (46) from Delta state of Nigeria. The accused persons, who were staying in Tilak Nagar for the past few years, were brought on transit remand to the state after being produced in a Delhi court.

5. Man Held for Raping 9-Year-Old Girl in Agra

A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl by luring her into his house on the pretext of giving her plums in Mainpuri on Sunday, 3 June.

The accused was identified as Deepu Yadav.

Police have registered a case against him under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and the relevant sections of POCSO Act.

Talking to TOI, Ajay Shankar Rai, Mainpuri superintendent of police, said, “The girl has been admitted to the district hospital as she has suffered internal injuries. She is recuperating at present.”

6. Scrapped Notes Racket: Lucknow Police Search for ‘Mastermind’ Bank Employee

Lucknow Police are on the lookout for an assistant bank manager who they suspect is the mastermind behind a demonetised currency racket they are investigating. On Saturday, 2 June, they had arrested four people in connection with the racket, when they were allegedly trying to smuggle demonetised notes with a face value of over Rs 50 lakh to Nepal.

The four accused — identified as Faizabad resident Amar Nath, Rajesh Gautam of Lucknow, Krishna Kumar Verma of Ambedkarnagar and Kannauj resident Sumit Sharma — had been caught in front of KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium.

They had told police that one Satish Verma, who works as an assistant manager at the Cooperative Bank’s main branch in Hazratganj police station area, used to send them to Nepal where these notes were exchanged in return for new ones.

7. Barabanki: Youth Pours Superglue on 20-Year-Old Woman for ‘Resisting Sexual Assault’

A youth allegedly poured superglue on a 20-year-old woman when she resisted his attempts to sexually assault her in a village in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday night, 1 June.

The woman, who was sleeping next to her younger sister in their home when Raju Verma, 25, broke in, was taken to a hospital because the adhesive had gone into her eyes and mouth.

Verma was arrested and sent to jail the next day, after he was booked under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). “At around 11 pm, 25-year-old Raju Verma broke into the house to sexually assault a 20-year-old woman sleeping there.

The woman was alone with her 14-year-old sister as her parents, both farmers, were on the fields,” said Jahangeerabad police station house officer (SHO) Akshay Kumar.

8. Drunken Man Opens Fire When Song of His Choice Isn’t Played, Woman Injured

A 25-year-old dancer was wounded when a drunken man fired after a song of his choice was not played at a wedding at Bhagol village in Ghazipur on Saturday, 2 June. Police said Ranu, who is from Odisha, suffered a minor injury.

She was discharged from a hospital after treatment. The attacker, Rajendra Ram, 35, has been booked for attempt to murder.

Jangipur station house officer Surendra Yadav said Ram was arrested with a countrymade pistol. He said the accused was produced before a court in Ghazipur and sent to judicial custody.

Yadav said Ram was enraged when the song was not played. A heated argument followed before Ram fired with the pistol. He said a bullet hit Ranu. “Ranu suffered abrasions and was rushed to the hospital,” said Yadav.
