1. Rs 260-Crore Ponzi Scam: Vinay Shah Nabbed From Nepal, Wife Still at Large

Kingpin of the Rs 260 crore Ponzi Scam, Vinay Shah was arrested from Pokhra in Nepal on Monday albeit his wife Bhavani Shah is still at large. Vinay was located at his friend Chanda Thapa’s home. Vinay is in custody of the Nepal’s revenue department at present. The Nepal police found Rs 30 lakh cash with Vinay.

The Ahmedabad CID Crime will take custody of him after the Nepal authorities give their clearance. The arrests have been made after the SIT investigations found that the couple had flown away to Nepal and were holed up in Kathmandu.

Vinay and Bhargavi Shah have duped thousands of investors to the tune of Rs 260 crore through their companies Archarcare LLP and Digi Locals.

2. Gujarat is the Manufacturing Hub of India: Vijay Rupani

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani held a curtain raiser, an interactive meeting with businessmen and industrialists from Mumbai in preparation of Vibrant Gujarat Sumit 2019. Rupani said that if Mumbai is the financial capital of India then Gujarat is the India’s manufacturing hub.

Rupani further added the positives of investing in Gujarat and said that Gujarat has written a new definition of development through hard work, entrepreneurship, progressive governance system, dynamic policies and dedicated leadership, making the state the economic backbone of the country along with Maharashtra.

The 9th Vibrant Gujarat Summit starting on 19 January will focus on new investment, new technology and new India, Rupani added.

3. Dalits, Adivasis to Protest Vibrant Gujarat Summit If Land Demands Not Met

Dalits, Adivasis and Landless across the state have threatened to protest against Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019 if their land demands are not met. At the Zameen Adhikar Zumbesh held in Gandhinagar.

The protestors demanded that the government should implement the Forest Rights Act and the Land Ceiling Act. The protestors also promised not to give up their land for the bullet train project.

Govabhai Rathod, convener of the Zameen Adhikar Zumbesh said that they have given a memorandum to the collector in the matter. Another demand raised was cremation grounds in over 2,000 villages where Dalit don’t have one. Rathod said that the summit has hardly helped the Dalits, the adivasis or the landless in the state.

4. NIA Gets 2-Day Remand of Ajmer Blast Accused

Mirzapur rural court granted National Investigations Agency (NIA) a two-day transit remand of Suresh Nair, an accused in the 2007 Ajmer dargah blast, on Monday. Notably, Nair, who was on the run for the past 11 years, was arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Sunday from Bharuch after receiving a tip-off that he was going to visit Shuklatirth, a religious place on the banks of Narmada river.

ATS on Monday produced Nair before the court where NIA sought his transit remand, which was granted by it. NIA is going to take Nair to Jaipur on a flight, where he will be produced before an NIA court. NIA is likely to seek his remand for further investigation from the Jaipur court.

5. Elderly Woman Becomes Third Victim of Leopard in Dahod

A 64-year-old woman was killed on Monday by a leopard on the prowl in Vasiya Dungri forest range in Gujarat's Dahod district, the third such incident involving the big cat in the region in last five days, officials said.

The incident occurred when Mathuriben Ganava was collecting wood in the forest near Bhanpur village in Dhanpur taluka, a senior Forest official said. Meanwhile, Devgadhbaria MLA Bachubhai Khabad claimed that the state forest department has granted a permission to Forest officials to shoot down the leopard on his request. However, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) A K Saxena said he was not aware about this.

Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Dahod, J L Zala said the Forest department has stepped up its efforts to trap the roaming big cat.
