1. 310 People Repeatedly Involved in Cow Slaughter and Related Crimes, Says Gujarat CM Rupani
In the past five years, the Gujarat government has identified 310 persons who have been repeatedly involved in crimes related to cow slaughter or transportation of cow beef or animals of cow progeny, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani stated in a written reply to an unstarred question in the Assembly.
Out of the 310 persons identified till November 2018, the state government initiated action against 94 people under the provisions of the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA), the reply added.
The question was raised by Congress MLA from Dhanera constituency of Banaskantha district, Nathabhai Patel.

2. Centre Grants 600 More Medical Seats in Gujarat
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, on Monday, 22 July, announced that the central government has granted 600 more medical seats in 12 medical colleges of Gujarat, following the introduction of 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). With this, the total number of medical seats in Gujarat has gone up to 5500, he added.
Patel made the announcement in the Gujarat Assembly, saying that he got a letter of approval from the Centre for increasing medical seats in the 12 medical colleges yesterday.
These include two colleges run by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), two colleges at Palanpur and Dahod which have been set up under the state government’s Brown Field Health Policy, and eight colleges being run by the Gujarat Medical & Education Research Society (GMERS).

3. Car Owned by BJP Leader Hits Pedestrian, Driver on the Run
Police on Monday 22 July, lodged an FIR against the driver of a car owned by BJP general secretary of Bardoli taluka in Surat, Parikshit Desai, after it hit a pedestrian, leaving him with multiple fractures.
The incident took place on Bardoli Kadod road in Talavdi on Sunday, 21 July, at around 8.30 pm when the car bearing the registration number – GJ-19AA-1402 – hit Ashok Patel (40), a resident of Bardoli, the police said.
Soon after the incident, a large number of people gathered at the spot and beat up the driver. However, before the police could be informed, the driver fled from the spot leaving behind the car.
The case was filed by Navinkumar Devendra Singh who accompanied Patel when the accident took place.

4. Fire in Shahibaug Post Office After Parcel Explodes
A minor fire broke out at the parcel wing of Shahibaug Post Office after a parcel containing air gun blast caps exploded.
The incident took place on Sunday night (21 July) at around 10.30pm. As per police officials, while the post office employees were sorting out return parcels, one of the parcels fell on the floor and exploded. A thick smoke started coming out from the parcel. The fire was minor, thus, it was brought under control in no time.
Following the incident, Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency service and police were called to spot. A bomb squad and FSL team were called to the spot to investigate.

5. Crop Insurance Claim: Gujarat Govt Mulls Corpus for Farmers
The state government during the question hour, on Monday, 22 July, announced that it is mulling to set up a corpus fund to compensate farmers facing losses due to crop failure.
The farmers insurance scheme and the alleged profit being made by private companies were raised in this hour. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani made the announcement in wake of increasing discontent among farmers over the compensation issue.
"We have proposed the Centre to allow us to set up a corpus fund to compensate farmers. A discussion about this is going on at the Centre since the current insurance scheme is a pan-India scheme," the CM said on a question raised by Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar.
Rupani clarified that Rs. 12,000 crore insurance will be provided against a premium of Rs 5,000 crore. Congress MLAs said that the farmers in the same region received different compensations. Many farmers in drought affected did not receive 100% compensation that they are entitled.
