1. EC Announces Bypolls to 2 More Assembly Seats in Gujarat
The Election Commission on Sunday, 22 September, announced bypolls to two more assembly constituencies in Gujarat, taking the total number of seats going for by-election across India to 66.
According to a statement issued by the Commission, bypolls to Radhanpur and Bayad assembly seats in Gujarat and the Samastipur Lok Sabha seat in Bihar will be held on 21 October.
Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana will also be held on the same day. The counting will be held on 24 October.
Bypolls to four assembly seats in Gujarat were announced on Saturday 21 September. The states where assembly bypolls will be held are Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha and Puducherry (one seat each).

2. Home Guard Official Booked for ‘Threatening’ Accountant
Police have booked a senior commander of the Gujarat Home Guard for allegedly abducting a city-based accountant and threatening him over monetary settlement with a businessman.
According to police, the accountant has been identified as 47-year-old Jitendra Patel — a resident of Geeta Mandir road in Ahmedabad — who has been employed at the ‘Sarvaiyya House’ firm for the past 30 years.
Patel was allegedly abducted by Brijrajsinh Gohil, senior commander, Home Guard, on Saturday evening (21 September). He was then taken for a ride on the Sanand highway, during which the latter allegedly threatened the former with a revolver.
According to police, Gohil and two more persons have been booked under IPC sections 365, 506 (2) and 114 for kidnapping with intent to illegally confine a person, criminal intimidation and abettor present when offence is committed.
3. ‘Ending Male Dominance a Solution to Sexual Abuse’: Justice Harsha Devani
A solution to sexual abuse and violence is putting an end to “male dominance”, said Gujarat High Court Justice Harsha Devani while chairing a seminar-cum-panel discussion on ‘The growing menace of Sexual Abuse and Violence: Role of Law and Society,’ organised by the Gujarat Federation of Women Lawyers at Ahmedabad Management Association on Sunday, 22 September.
“The solution to the growing menace of sexual abuse and violence is to bring an end to male dominance. Men would not dare to sexually abuse if there is a female senior sitting on the chair,” Justice Harsha Devani remarked.
The lack of diversity and inclusivity in terms of women representation in almost all sectors and positions was also raised, citing that only three women judges in the Supreme Court reflects the mindset of the society and how women are perceived.

4. Three Siblings Die After Luxury Bus Collides With Motorcycle
Three siblings died after their motorcycle collided with a luxury bus in Palanpur of Banaskantha on Sunday morning (22 September). According to police, the incident occurred around 8am near Lakhani village in Palanpur when the speeding motorcycle collided head-on with the tourist bus.
The deceased siblings are Mukesh Prajapati (20), Ramesh Prajapati (18) and Jigar Prajapati (16) from Lalpur village in Palanpur.
“The three were on their way home when the accident occurred. The occupants of the luxury bus were travelling to a nearby Hanuman temple. The victims died on the spot and we have registered a case of accidental death,” said a police officer at Lakhani police station. “None of them was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. All of them died on the spot,” said Lakhani police station sub-inspector K K Patadiya.

5. Amdavadis to Witness Bengal Village This Durga Puja Festival
The Bengal Cultural Association (BCA), which organises the oldest and biggest Durga Puja celebrations in the city, is all set to introduce Amdavadis to 'Bengal village', which is the central theme of this year's celebration from 3-8 October.
The association is going to re-create the magic of how the biggest festival of the community is celebrated in the villages of West Bengal.
The major attraction of this year's festivities would be the idol of goddess Durga, which will be completely made up of clay. In fact, not just the idol, but all the other required decorations including the saree and other accessories will also be made up of clay, something which has never been tried in Ahmedabad.
BCA's general secretary Kanak Das Adhikary told DNA that the idea of this year's theme is to going back to the roots and adopting an eco-friendly manner to celebrate Durga Puja. He added apart from the idol, all other elements to be used in the decoration will also complement the theme.
