The Motor Vehicles Department identified the driver as Nirmal Jose, who was found absconding when the MVD officials reached his house, said a report by The Times Of India.

When we reached his house on Thursday, 19 October, Nirmal was not there. Though we tried to contact him, his phone was switched off. Family members said they were unaware of his whereabouts. We told them to ask Nirmal to surrender his driving licence and car immediately.
CS Ayyappan, Joint Regional Transport Officer, Sub-RT Office, Aluva told TOI.

The police and the MVD have booked the driver under Section 279 (rash driving) and and Section 184 (dangerous driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act respectively, TOI reported.

In his defense, the driver said in his statement to the police that he was trying to pilot the ambulance.
