Acclaimed writer Kiran Nagarkar reacts to certain Sahitya Akademi’s board members terming the writers’ protest as just “ho halla”, by saying that if that’s their reaction, then, “We do not need the Akademi.”

According to a report in Indian Express, some Akademi members felt that the writers should not have returned their awards and they also rejected the contention of writers that freedom of speech is threatened under the BJP government.

Soon after this interview was recorded, the Sahitya Akademi met and condemned the killing of writer MM Kaburgi.

Nagarkar will be awarded the lifetime achievement award at the TATA Literature Festival 2015.
