Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday, 3 November, moved an application in the Supreme Court, seeking direction against the removal of CBI Director Alok Verma, news agency ANI reported.

In his plea, Kharge argued that Verma’s removal was “completely illegal, arbitrary, punitive, and without jurisdiction.”

“They (Central government) should have called a meeting of all the three members on the committee – the PM, the CJI & me. He (Verma) was asked to go on an indefinite leave overnight, and that too without the committee's consent,” Kharge said, adding that it is a violation of the CBI Act.

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) also violated the rules by asking Verma to go on leave, the Congress leader said in his plea, which requests the SC to quash the Centre’s order.
