Former Supreme Court Judge Markandey Katju has likened Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to Delhi sultanate ruler Mohammad bin Tughlaq.

Katju, while talking to Khas Khabar, equated Kejriwal’s planning with Tuglhaq’s, saying that his proposed odd-even plan will fall flat. He also said that Kejriwal is headed towards the same fate as Tughlaq, who shifted his capital from Delhi to Daulatabad and changed the currency, ending in the Sultanate’s disaster.

Tuglaq was honest and sensible. Kejriwal is honest too. He wants to do good, but he is immature and unrealistic. His odd-even scheme will cause chaos in Delhi. It will become a new source for corruption.

Katju also said that Kejriwal is surrounded by many Yes-men, who might lead him to his downfall.

The scheme, set to roll out from 1 January 2016 for fifteen days, has been proposed to curb pollution in the national capital by restricting movement of private vehicles, based on their registration numbers.

Violators of the scheme would attract a penalty of Rs 2,000. VIPs, women drivers, CNG-certified vehicles, two-wheelers and those carrying differently-abled people are among the 25 categories which will be exempted from the scheme.
