Party Chief Sitaram Yechury, addressing the same press conference, said a writ petition was being filed under Tarigami’s name, challenging the government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution.

Tarigami talked about how the people of Kashmir, “despite all odds,” decided to reject Pakistan and join secular India.

“Today those bonds that were created by hard work of people of Kashmir and the rest of the country have been assaulted,” he said.

In an emotional appeal to the nation he said, “Please listen to us. You have heard only one version, listen to the version people of Kashmir as well. We don’t want to be killed or destroyed.”

“The average Kashmiri doesn’t ask for heavens, we just ask for a chance to march with you.”

The Supreme Court on 5 September, allowed Tarigami to shift from Srinagar to AIIMS in New Delhi on account of his deteriorating health, following a petition filed by party leader Sitaram Yechury.
