Karva Chauth is a Hindu festival, which is traditionally celebrated four days after Purnima in month of Kartika by married women. It will be observed on 27 October this year.
‘Karva’ means earthen pots used to store wheat and ‘chauth’ means the fourth day. As per the Hindu ritual, on this day married women fast from sunrise to moonrise, praying for the safety and longevity of their husbands.

Karva Chauth: Customs and Beliefs
Women dress in ethnic wear and traditional wear and apply mehndi on their hands. Right after the moon rises, they look at the moon through a sieve and then look at their husband, praying for his long life.
After having observed fast through the day, women offer prayers to lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Kartik to bless them with a blissful life. After four days of Karwa Chauth, Ahoi Ashtami Vrat is observed for the well-being of children.
