Two men robbed jewellery worth crores of rupees from a popular store, Lalithaa Jewellery, in Trichy, Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, 1 October. The CCTV captured the men sporting cat and dog masks while executing the heist.

Over 800 jewels weighing about 30 kg have been reportedly stolen. The stolen jewels are reportedly worth Rs 13 crore, although the actual estimate is yet to be ascertained.

When the store was opened on Wednesday morning, the employees were in for a shock as several mannequins were stripped of the valuables, including gold and diamond necklaces.

Police suspect that the duo drilled a hole from one side of the store, on Tuesday night, where there was an empty plot to gain entry inside.

The robbery took place despite six night watchmen being on guard. The miscreants had reportedly sprinkled chilli power to confuse the police dogs.

Police officials said investigation is underway and they have formed special teams to nab the culprits. They also suspect the two had an accomplice who stood guard.
