A determined, impactful human and a disability rights champion, Javed Abidi, passed away at the age of 53, on Sunday, 4 March. According to a report by Scroll, initial reports suggest that the cause of his death was a chest infection.
Abidi was the director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People and the global chair of Disabled Peoples' International.
He founded the Disabled Rights Group in 1993 with specific focus on cross disability issues of access and inclusion, reported Scroll.
Abidi encouraged people with different disabilities to come together and work on common problems. According to the report by Scroll, he was instrumental in the formation of the progressive Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act which was passed in December 2016.
