Six Terrorists Killed in an Encounter in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pulwama

Six terrorists were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday, 22 December, reported news agency ANI.

Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the site in Tral.

“6 terrorists were killed in the operation, there was no collateral damage. Identities and affiliation of terrorists being ascertained. We thank civilians for cooperating with us, it was a clean operation,” SP Pani, IG Kashmir, told ANI.

Terrorists Belong to Zakir Musa-led Outfit: Report

The terrorists belonged to the Zakir Musa-led Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind outfit, reported PTI.

A police spokesman said security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Arampora village in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, following specific intelligence about the presence of militants.

As the forces were conducting searches, militants opened fire on them, he said, adding the forces retaliated leading to a gunfight in which the militants were killed.

He said there was no collateral damage during the operation.

He said the slain terrorists have been identified as Soliha Mohammad Akhoon, a resident of Arampora Tral, Faisal Ahmad Khanday, a resident of Amlar, Nadeem Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Batagund, Tral, Rasiq Mir, Rouf Mir and Umar Ramzan – all residents of Dadsara, Tral.

Militants had opened fire during the search operation, prompting security forces to retaliate, an official told The Hindu.

Last week, seven civilians were killed in Sirnoo area of Pulwama after security forces allegedly opened fire on protesters following a gunfight that left three militants and a soldier dead.
