Situation Under Control in Jaipur's Curfew-Bound Areas: Police

The situation in the four police station areas of Jaipur, where curfew was imposed, has been brought under control, a police officer said.

No untoward incident has been reported from the areas where curfew was clamped on Friday night

The police also said that the exact cause of death of the person will be ascertained only after the post-mortem report and an inquiry into the matter.

The Delhi-Agra route through Jaipur has been diverted. Large number of security personnel have been deployed in the violence-hit areas, the police added.

“Cops Misbehaved With Senior Citizen”: Reports

The Times of India quoted Advocate Aslam Khan, a resident of the area, as saying that the violence broke out after police misbehaved with a senior citizen, prompting other residents to join the verbal spat, which then turned into a clash.

According to the report, the area was cordoned off and power supply to street lights were cut off to curb the violence.

Curfew Imposed

“Curfew has been imposed till further orders in Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Galta Gate and Ramganj police station areas of the city following violence in which a police station was attacked and vehicles burnt,” Commissioner of Police Sanjay Agarwal told IANS.

According to the police commissioner, journalists who reached the site to cover the incident were also attacked, reported NDTV.

Protesters Torch Vehicles, Damage Property

IANS reported that a large crowd gathered at the police station and started to create ruckus. The mob pelted stones, torched rickshaws, and damaged police and other vehicles, The Times of India reported.

Police resorted to lathicharge and tear gas in a bid to control the mob.
