Who’s SV Ranganath?

With a postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Ranganath joined the IAS in 2009 and retired from the services in 2013 as the Chief Secretary of Karnataka. He was chosen for the position in 2009 by the Yediyurappa government and has had one of the longest tenures in that position, which was extended multiple times before he finally retired.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, the Yediyurappa government gave preference to Ranganath for the position of Chief Secretary over other senior bureaucrats. The same report also said that he had directly served over six chief ministers before his appointment as the chief secretary.

He had served as principal secretary to Chief Ministers SM Krishna, HD Kumaraswamy and N Dharam Singh, Secretary to Veerappa Moily and HD Deve Gowda, and Joint Secretary to Ramakrishna Hegde.

Those who have followed Ranganath in the bureaucratic circles of Bengaluru described him as a “respected and honest” officer.

Apart from his roles in Karnataka, he also served as Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser in the Department of Space and Member (Finance) to the Space Commission, Atomic Energy Commission and Earth Commission in the Centre.

After retirement, from 2014 to 2017, Ranganath served as non-executive chairperson of the Industrial Finance Corporation of India. He also worked as Chairman of the Indian Coffee Board and was Resident Director at Indian Investment Centre, Abu Dhabi.

Ranganath was appointed to the board of CCD in 2015 and also serves as an independent, non-executive director of Bosch Ltd.
