Former INX-Media founder Indrani Mukerjea said she had been seeking a divorce from her husband of 16 years, Peter Mukerjea, several times before, but on Wednesday, 15 April, she finally had a notice to dissolve the marriage couriered to him.

Indrani and Peter – both prime accused in the murder of Indrani’s daughter from her first marriage, Sheena Bora – are currently in jail in Mumbai.

According to Hindustan Times, the notice was couriered by Indrani’s lawyer, Edith Dey, to Peter, as he had refused to accept it by hand in court.

“My client states that your marriage is now irretrievably broken down and there is no chance of reconciliation. My client states this fact has been acknowledged by you as well,” the notice reads.

The notice also seeks an “amicable financial settlement” from Peter before 30 April, so that the process for dissolving the marriage could be initiated, reported HT.

In view of what is stated above, my client calls upon you to execute agreed amicable financial settlement at the earliest and no later than 30-4-2018, in order to dissolve the marriage between yourselves amicably by mutual consent and put a closure to this chapter once and for all.

Saying that neither of the two would be allowed to interfere in the other’s life once the decree of divorce was passed, the notice also mentioned that neither could claim the other’s movable or immovable assets following the same.

In January 2017, Indrani had said that she wished to divorce Peter and had even sought the court’s permission to file it. The year before that, it was Peter’s lawyer who had appraised of his client’s wishes to divorce his wife.
