Former Bhutan prime minister Tshering Tobgay lashed out at Indian media for misidentifying Bhutan's current prime minister and posting a picture of someone else with his name on Thursday, 30 May.
Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Bhutan, arrived in India on Thursday for the swearing-in of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi. Tobgay took to Twitter to point out gaffe by Indian media organisations in their coverage of his arrival.
In his post, he said "India's media would be up in arms if any other country got the picture of their PM wrong." He also reiterated that "Bhutan may be small," but is India's close neighbour and close friend.
Tobgay shared two screenshots where Tshering was identified wrongly. One was from a post made by Karnataka English news channel News9 which posted Tobgay's image, addressing him as the current Bhutan PM.
The second was a screenshot of TV channel Wion, which displayed the picture of Tshering Wangchuk, chief advisor of Bhutan’s interim government, with the PM’s name.
The former Bhutan prime minister next tweeted a photo of PM Dr Lotay Tshering for "the media’s ready reference".
