1. 2011 Mumbai Triple Blasts Case: Yasin Bhatkal Produced Before Court

Indian Mujahideen operative, Yasin Bhatkal, was produced before a Mumbai court on Wednesday, 6 June, with a high-security cover for a hearing in the 2011 Mumbai triple blasts case, where he is one of the accused.

Bhatkal, who is a death convict lodged in Tihar jail in New Delhi, is usually produced before court through video-conferencing. The special court in Mumbai, however, had directed for Bhatkal to be produced before the court, as it had to frame charges against the accused.

After multiple production warrants were previously issued by the court, Bhatkal was brought to the court from Delhi on Wednesday.

2. Byculla: 3-Year-Old Boy Run over by Car, Dies

A three-year-old boy died after he was allegedly knocked down by a car at Meghraj Shetty Marg in Byculla. The car driver was arrested and released on bail on Wednesday, 6 June.

According to police, the accident took place on Tuesday when Armaan Shaikh, a kindergarten student and a resident of Byculla, was on his way home and was run over by the reversing vehicle.

“Around 2.30 pm on Monday, Shaikh was returning home with his elder brother, Salman (10). The two brothers were playing on the road while returning home,” said an officer from Agripada police station.

Accused Sarfaraz Riyaz Mirza while reversing his vehicle, a Mahindra Quanto, did not see the boy and had allegedly ran him over.

3. Couple Found Dead Inside Car in Mulund

A young couple allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison inside a car near the Mulund court in the early hours of Wednesday, 6 June. While no suicide note has been found, the police believed that Salman Khan (25) and Manisha Negi (23) killed themselves as their families were unhappy with their relationship.

The Mulund police has taken an accidental death report in the matter and is awaiting the post-mortem report to rule out foul play.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) Akhilesh Singh said the police had received a call around 3.30 am informing that a car with its headlights on was parked on JSS Road near Mulund court.

4. Ex-BSF Officer, Four Others Jailed for 10 Years in Srinagar Sex Scandal

A special court on Wednesday, 6 June, sentenced five people, including a former senior officer of the Border Security Force (BSF), to 10 years of imprisonment for their involvement in the rape and sexual exploitation of a minor girl in Srinagar 12 years ago.

The Central Bureau of Investigation court in Chandigarh also fined KC Padhi, former BSF deputy inspector general, and Mohammad Ashraf Mir, former deputy superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rs 1 lakh each. Jammu and Kashmir residents Shabbir Ahmed Laway, Shabbir Ahmed Langhoo, and Masud Ahmed were fined Rs 50,000 each.

The fines will be used to compensate the rape victim for the loss of her reputation, dignity, mental harm and lost of opportunity for education. “A victim of rape inevitably suffers acute trauma. Rape itself brings enormous shame to the victim,” said judge Geetanjali Goel.

5. Bihar Triple Murder: Illicit Relationship of Girls’ Mother Under Scanner

Police in Bihar’s Banka district said on Wednesday, 6 June, they were investigating whether the family of the man, who was allegedly in a relationship with the mother of the three girls killed a day earlier, were behind the murders.

A police officer leading the probe, who did not wish to be named, said there was a possibility that the crime could have been committed with an intention to teach the woman a lesson.

Banka superintendent of police Chandan Kumar Kushwaha said the eight people named as suspects by the victims’ mother were related to her alleged paramour. Two of the suspects had been detained by the police for interrogation.

6. Man Arrested for Stealing Over 100 Luxury Vehicles

Jaipur police arrested a 38-year-old man on Wednesday, 6 June, for stealing over 100 luxury four-wheelers in the last one and half years.

Ramesh alias Rahul Meena (38), hailing from Dausa, was arrested by police while he was trying to steal a motorcycle. Additional DCP (South) Manoj Chaudhary said information was collated and a special team was formed to nab the accused.

“Over the last two years, there has been an increase in the theft of four-wheelers in the city. We made special teams to look into the matter. The Mansarovar special team caught Meena, who is an infamous vehicle thief,” ADCP Chaudhary said.

7. Asked to Take Medicines, 35-Year-Old Stabs Mother in Delhi

Delhi Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his mother in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Vihar, after she told him to take his medicines. The accused, who hails from Meghalaya, is mentally challenged and is currently undergoing treatment, police said.

According to police, the incident took place on 31 May, when the victim (56) was at home with her son and daughter. “The matter was reported to police by the victim’s daughter, who said her brother’s treatment was going on at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital. The doctor had prescribed him several medicines.

As he had not been taking his medicines for the last 24 hours, his mother forced him to take the pills, which enraged him,” a senior police officer said.

8. Chhattisgarh: Minor Tribal Girl Gang-Raped During Wedding Function

A minor tribal girl was targeted by two youths during a wedding ceremony, who allegedly forced her to consume alcohol and then raped her by stuffing cloth in her mouth in Jashpur district. The girl is under trauma and has identified two of the accused while undergoing treatment. Police have arrested two accused as they were planning to escape.

Talking to TOI, Bagicha police in-charge Rajesh Marai said that the 15-year-old tribal girl was gang-raped at an isolated location and was left in unconscious state in Bagicha region.

9. Woman Poisons Three Kids for Disturbing Her Sleep

Three children were allegedly poisoned by their aunt on Monday, 4 June, in Ajmer just because they were making noise while playing outside and the woman was disturbed during her afternoon siesta. The children were then taken to hospital in an unconscious state and doctors flushed out poison from their bodies.

The children, aged between eight to 10 years, were playing outside their house and their aunt Sushila asked them many times not to make noise. But children continued playing and to get rid of the noises the accused called them inside and allegedly offered them cold drinks laced with poisonous substance.

As the children consumed the drink they felt dizzy and started vomiting. Soon they were unconscious. Seeing this their parents rushed them to Jawahar Lal Nehru hospital.
