1. Muslim Cab Driver Beaten Up In Thane, Asked to Chant Jai Shri Ram

Three men have been arrested by police here in Maharashtra for allegedly beating up a Muslim cab driver and later asking him to chant ''Jai Shri Ram''.

A case under IPC sections 295 (hurting religious sentiments) and 392 (robbery) was registered by Mumbai police, said Deputy Commissioner of Police S S Burse.

According to the complainant, Faizal, who drives a cab for an online aggregator, he took some passengers to Diva town in the district Saturday night, the officer said.

2. Nagpur Drug Exporter Held in Prague for Selling Prohibited Items

A Nagpur-based pharmaceutical exporter was arrested in Prague in the Czech Republic on June 3 for allegedly supplying drugs prohibited in the United States. Jitendra Belani was arrested by US drug authorities at Prague Airport after they laid a trap.

The arrest was confirmed by officials of the Nagpur Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), who conducted searches at Belani’s company in Nagpur, Lee HPL Ventures Private Limited.

According to sources, US authorities had failed to lure Belani to the US with a big purchase offer, so they sent a decoy customer from Prague and managed to snare him. The operation was conducted in concert with Czech authorities, sources said.

3. West Bengal: Man Found Dead in His Tiljala Flat, Girlfriend Arrested

A 21-year-old man was found dead inside his rented flat in Tiljala area on Wednesday, following which his girlfriend was arrested.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Yaseer Iqbal. He used to work at a call centre and his girlfriend was also an employee in the same office.

Prima facie police suspected it to be a suicide case.

“Iqbal was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his house in Tiljala. He was rushed to SSKM hospital, where he was declared brought dead. We received a complaint from the family of the deceased, on the basis of which we have arrested a woman. Her role is under scrutiny,” said a senior police official.

3. Ludhiana Jail Inmates Clash with Police, 1 Dead

One prison inmate was killed and five others injured inside the Ludhiana Central Jail Thursday after a clash between prisoners and police turned violent forcing the police to fire several rounds to control the situation.

Nearly six cops were injured in the clash which began around 11.30 am and went on for about two hours.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has ordered a probe by Ludhiana DC Pradeep Aggarwal into the episode. The deceased prisoner has been identified as Ajit Baba.

4. Mumbai: Woman Abandons Infant, Held

A 28-year-old woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly abandoning her eleven-month-old son. The woman, who is a commercial sex worker, could not take time out of her daily routine to take care of the infant, so she decided to abandon it, police said.

According to the police, the woman has three children — an eight-year-old son, six-year-old daughter and the eleven-month-old boy. Her husband recently left her, and to take care of the infant, someone from the family had to stay back home.

5. Wanted Man Who Escaped Police Custody in 2018 Held

The crime branch on Wednesday arrested a history-sheeter accused of involvement in at least 54 cases of murder, assault, ATM theft, robbery, snatching and loot in Gurugram, Faridabad and Nuh.

The arrested man was identified as Shahid alias Advani, of Nuh. The police said that he was arrested from near a court in the city, after being tipped off about his whereabouts.

According to the police, Shahid was arrested in 2018 by a team from the crime branch, Bilaspur, but he managed to escape police custody. He was carrying a reward of ₹5 lakh on his arrest.

6. 41-Yr-Old Consumes Poison, Immolates Self, in Bawana

A 41-year-old man allegedly set himself on fire and consumed poison to take his life after the demolition of some residential quarters in Bawana’s Barwala on Thursday morning.

The police said that Delhi government carried out the demolition to broaden a national highway that passes through Barwala. The department had served advanced notices to the residents about the demolition, police said.

The man who died was identified as Surya Narayan who worked as a contract labourer. Assistant commissioner of police Anil Mittal said there were at least 25 houses built on the government land.

7. Man Held for Robbing Commuters in Cars in Gurugram

The crime branch on Wednesday arrested a man accused of involvement in multiple cases of snatching and assault in Haryana’s Gurugram.

The police said that at least three accomplices of the man, who rob people on the pretext of offering a lift, are being tracked and will be arrested soon.

The suspect was identified as Zubeer, 24, of Nuh. The police said that he was arrested at a checkpoint near the Bhondsi jail, after receiving a tip-off.

8. Woman Who Alleged Rape Attacked By 3 Men Ahead Of Court Hearing: Cops

A 28-year-old rape survivor was allegedly assaulted at Greater Noida by three men who also attempted to strangulate her, a day ahead of the hearing in the rape case in a local court, officials said on Thursday.

The woman, who worked in a private educational institute in the Knowledge Park area, was picked up by the assailants in a car on Wednesday, the police officials said.

The woman, who lives in Ghaziabad, was allegedly gang-raped in November last year and has been fighting the case at the District and Sessions court at Surajpur, Greater Noida, they added.
