1. DNA Sample Helps Nail Man who Raped 24-Year-Old Autistic Woman

A trainer for special children was arrested on Friday on the charge of raping a 24-year-old woman with neurodevelopment disorder [autism], police said.

Police arrested the man, identified as Khushal Singh, after matching his DNA sample with the foetus, which was preserved after the victim’s pregnancy was aborted because of medical complications.

The woman was 19 weeks pregnant when her parents reported the incident to the Lucknow police on 26 November last year, almost five months after she was allegedly raped, police said.

2. Unregistered Driver Rapes 26-Year-Old Tech Firm Employee in Uber in Greater Noida

A man taking Uber bookings using someone else’s credentials allegedly raped a 26-year-old passenger in Greater Noida, police said on Thursday, as they announced the arrest of both men — the unregistered driver as well as the person under whose name he was driving the vehicle.

The woman, who works at a technology company, had booked the cab on the night of 5 February from her friend’s residence in Greater Noida to her home in Greater Noida West, a ride that would have taken her on a route that sees little night traffic.

The accused was identified as Aarav Yadav from Nuh in Haryana, a police official said. He was driving using the credentials of one Joginder, a resident of Mahendragarh in Haryana, whose name and details flashed on the mobile application when the woman made the booking.

3. Two Suspected Thieves Lynched in Meghalaya, one Critical in Hospital

Two persons were allegedly lynched on Friday by an angry mob that suspected them to be robbers as they hung around in their Maruti Alto in Chanangpara village in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills (WGH) district, police said. A third person in the car, who was also targeted, has survived but is in a critical condition.

The police said the villagers, suspicious because the trio were simply whiling away time, insisted on checking the boot of the car that contained iron rods and daggers. When they opened the boot, the trio fled but the villagers chased them and dragged them out of a house where they tried to hide. They were then allegedly thrashed and assaulted.

4. Man Gets 10 Years in Jail for Ferrying Poppy Husk

A special court in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district Thursday sentenced the owner of a multi-utility vehicle to ten years in jail for possessing and transporting poppy husk.

Bhanvarlal Vishnoi (35), a resident of neighbouring Rajasthan, was also fined Rs 1 lakh by special judge (NDPS) Rupesh Kumar Gupta, according to deputy director, prosecution, Bapusingh Thakur.

On 3 June 2010, acting on a tip-off, police had intercepted the vehicle and seized 2.96 quintal poppy husk from it, he said.

5. Man Arrested for Abduction, Rape, Murder of Four-Year-Old

A day after the dismembered body of a four-year-old girl was found in Mumbai, police on Friday arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the incident. The man, who worked with the girl’s father, has been charged with abduction, rape and murder of the child, the police said.

According to the police, the girl was reported missing from her house on Tuesday. On Thursday, the police found her mutilated body near Shilphata. “The body showed signs of sexual abuse. The head and the arms had been chopped off and there were cigarette burn marks all over the body,” said a senior officer.

6. 26-Year-Old Held for Trying to Kill Brother-In-Law

A 26-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly trying to kill his brother-in-law in Kalyan because his cellphone did not have enough charge to play a game.

The accused has been identified as Rajnish Rajbhar. “His brother-in-law Om Bavdankar had come to Rajbhar’s house in Kolsewadi, along with his wife. On Thursday night, Rajbhar was playing the PUBG game and later put his cellphone on charge. However, when he woke up, his phone was not charged,” a police officer said.

7. 28-Year-Old Arrested in Attempt to Murder Case in Delhi

A 28-year-old man wanted in an attempt to murder case has been arrested from east Delhi area, Crime Branch of Delhi police said on Friday.

The accused, Shakti Sharma, was previously involved in five cases of murder, extortion and robbery, police said. Sharma was arrested on Thursday night.

According to police, the attempt to murder case was lodged on a complaint by an Azad Nagar-based shopkeeper which alleged Sharma, along his associates, shot at him with a pistol on the night of 19 January.

8. TV Channel Head, 3 Staff Named in Blackmail Case in Ghaziabad; 1 Arrested

The owner of a local news channel and three of his employees were named in a case and one of them was arrested for allegedly blackmailing a head clerk of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC), the police said on Friday.

The accused were allegedly blackmailing the head clerk with video clips, in which he was purportedly seen with a woman, they added.

Senior police officer Shlok Kumar told reporters that the GMC employee filed a complaint against two people, alleging that they had recorded his video with a woman.

The complainant alleged that the duo had arranged his meeting with the woman, a job-seeker, at a hotel, the officer added.

9. Top Court Stays Death Sentence of Man Convicted for Raping 4-Year-Old

The Supreme Court today stayed the death sentence of a school teacher, convicted of raping a four-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district in June last year.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices L Nageswara Rao and Sanjiv Khanna stayed the execution.

According to the prosecution, the child was so brutally assaulted that she had to spend months in AIIMS, Delhi for an intestinal surgery.
