1. 7-Year-Old Girl Murdered In Assam By Teenager, Rape Suspected

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by a 19-year-old at Raniganj in Assam's Dhubri district on the night of Sunday, 29 April. The accused has been arrested and has reportedly confessed to the crime.

The girl's family says the accused took the seven-year-old away from home when they were busy at a neighbourhood wedding and killed her, possibly after sexually assaulting her. A medical report is awaited to confirm rape.

The girl had been missing since Sunday evening. Acting on a tip-off, the police managed to arrest the accused and based on the information he provided, they recovered the body from a nearby field at around 4 am on Tuesday, 1 May.

2. Woman Gangraped by Caterer, Friend in Gurugram

A 35-year-old woman was gang-raped by a caterer she worked for and his friend after being called on the pretext of clearing accounts.

The duo took her to a secluded spot on the Dwarka Expressway and took turns in raping her and it was when they were returning to drop her that they were intercepted at police check post and nabbed.

According to police, when they signalled the car to stop, the victim came out and narrated the incident.

3. 5 Held for Murder of Teacher in Tamil Nadu

A man named Babu and four of his relatives were arrested – on 1 May for murdering a private school teacher – over his alleged relationship with his 17-year-old daughter.

Police arrested Babu, 45, of Natrampalli and his relatives Sridhar, 45, of Jolarpet, Muthukumaran, 30, of Pernambut, Janardhanan, 23, of Vaniyambadi and Amarnath, 22, of Gudiyattam for the murder of P Sathish Kumar, 32, of Natrampalli.

Satish was found dead with multiple stab injuries near Natrampalli around 11pm on Monday, 30 April.

Inquiries revealed that Sathish, a father of two children, worked as a teacher in a private school. He developed an affair with a girl studying in Class XII. On learning this, his wife left him. “However, he continued his affair with her,” said T Shanthalingam, inspector of Natrampalli police station .

4. Gurugram: Raped by 3, Clip Used to Force MCom Student Into Sex for 2 Years

A 23-year-old student has lodged a complaint with police against a man whom she met through Facebook and two of his friends for raping her repeatedly over a period of two years.

The three allegedly used a video clip to blackmail her, police said.
Keshav, 19, the Facebook friend of the woman and a resident of Nawada, and Abhishek, 23, a resident of Naharpur, have been arrested while Sunil, 22, also a resident of Nawada, is absconding.

Keshav and Abhishek are BTech students while Sunil is unemployed. Police got Keshav on a day’s remand from court. Abhishek was sent to judicial custody.

The woman alleged the three men made a video while raping her the first time on June 2016 and used it to blackmail and rape her repeatedly.

5. Vellore Man Held for Attempting to Murder Girlfriend

A 23-year-old MBA student was arrested in Vellore on Monday, 30 April for attempting to murder a woman at Green Circle on Sunday night.

Police said the accused, N Shabi, a resident of Katpadi, and the woman had been in a long-term relationship and that the woman’s parents had denied the couple permission to marry, citing their different religious backgrounds.

When the woman refused to defy her parent’s orders, the accused asked her to meet him, took a button knife that he was carrying with him and slit her throat, according to Vellore North inspector of police K Nagarajan.

6. Woman Booked for Husband's Murder a Year After His Death

A 34-year-old private bank employee has been booked for allegedly murdering her husband over property issues. On 16 April 2017, Vinayak Londhe, 34, was found hanging from the ceiling of his ground floor house at NG residency in Kapurbawdi, Thane. The Kapurbawdi police then registered an accidental death report in the case and started a probe.

“Vinayak and Poonam got married in 2012. Vinayak used to work at a private firm and had a good salary while Poonam used to work in a private bank. After marriage, Vinayak resigned from his job and began his own business, which did not work out”, said a police officer from Kapurbawdi police station.

“After Vinayak was found dead, his mother approached the court and after a year, the court has ordered to lodge a murder case. We have booked Poonam but not arrested her. If she is found guilty, we will arrest her,” added officer.

7. Delhi Businessman's Car Snatched at Knifepoint

An armed robber attacked a businessman and took his car near the Chirag Dilli intersection on the night of 28 April. According to the police, the incident took place on around 11.45 pm when the complainant, Dhrist Dyumn Singh (47), was travelling from Green Park to Sheikh Sarai in his Swift Dzire.

In his complaint, Singh told cops that he had stopped at the traffic signal underneath the Chirag Dilli flyover when a man approached him with a knife. “The accused opened the door on my side and tried taking the car’s key but I grabbed his hand in a bid to stop him,” Singh said. As he resisted, the miscreant threatened him with the knife.

The robber asked Singh not to make any noise and come out of his car immediately. As he did so, the accused sat on the driver’s seat and fled towards Moolchand. Singh’s wallet and phone were also in the car

8. Four Men Thrash Ola Driver, Steal His Car

Around 10.15 pm on Monday, 30 April Ola cab driver Shiv Kumar was looking for his last trip when he received a rental booking from Noida’s Sector 44. The four men who got into his white WagonR said they would first go to Gurgaon before being dropped home. In the hours that followed, Kumar was beaten up, held hostage till 3 am and thrown out of the car.

Early on Tuesday, 1 May, two of the men were arrested after an exchange of fire between them and police.

“The two have been identified as Rahul Chauhan and Kunal Singh, residents of Dadri. They received injuries during retaliatory police firing and have been admitted to Noida district hospital. Four cases of robbery and loot have been registered against them. They would steal cars and then sell the parts. The other two are still absconding,” said Nishank Sharma, Circle Officer (Dadri).

9. Mumbai: 65-Year-Old Man Held for Murder

The Azad Maidan police have arrested a 65-year-old man for allegedly smashing the face and head of a man with paver block on the night of Saturday, 28 April near Churchgate in South Mumbai.

The accused has been identified as Vijayan Tewar (65). After killing the victim, he also sexually assaulted him.

According to the police, the victim Vikram Inama (23), was found in a pool of blood, with his head and face smashed with a paver block near Azad Maidan on Saturday night. The police said the victim was spotted by a police constable Gopal Narsingh near the income tax office, while he was on his patrolling duty. "He was immediately taken to St George hospital where he was declared dead. The paver block was covered in blood when we found it. After the postmortem, we immediately registered a case of murder and began the probe," said a police officer from Azad Maidan Police Station.
