1. Kenyan Woman Offered Lift near MG Road, Raped by Five in Ghata

Three people have been arrested and two others booked for allegedly raping a 31-year-old Kenyan woman in Ghata village on Thursday morning, 7 June.

According to police, the woman, was looking for a cab at 12.40 am near Bristol Hotel when three men approached her in a white Scorpio and asked her if she needed help. The woman told them she was looking for a cab to go to Delhi’s Chattarpur. The trio offered her a lift and claimed they were heading towards Delhi and could drop her.

“They looked decent, so I accepted their offer. As I sat inside the car, they started misbehaving with me. They took the car towards Golf Course Road. After driving for some distance, they stopped outside a house. The three dragged me inside, where two other men were already present. There all five men raped me. After a while, they called five more people who also came and raped me,” the woman told cops.

2. Fired Worker Shoots at HR Manager, Held

A disgruntled worker who lost his job in March has been arrested for an attack on a Japanese company’s HR manager, who was chased along the national highway and shot at in Gurugram on Thursday morning, 7 June.

Dinesh Sharma, 50, who was driving to work in his Etios, was followed by four men in two bikes from Manesar to Bilaspur, where his office is located. He was hit in the back, just below the neck, by a bullet that pierced a rear window when one of the bikers began firing.

An injured Sharma drove 3 km to his office, from where he was rushed in an ambulance to Rockland hospital in Manesar. The attackers allegedly followed the ambulance for a while before giving up. Later, police said Sharma was out of danger.

3. Illegal Parking Lots Busted in Trans-Hindon, 7 Arrested

Seven persons were arrested in two separate incidents on 6 June for allegedly running illegal parking lots in the trans-Hindon area of Ghaziabad. The men were allegedly extorting money from auto-rickshaw and truck drivers in order to park their vehicles on public places.

Printed receipts that were being handed out to vehicle owners in the fake parking lots have been recovered by police.

Police arrested three men, Ravindra, Yogendra and Avdesh, for running a fake parking lot in Site 4 Industrial Area of Sahibabad. The men used to charge Rs 100 and Rs 60, respectively, from trucks and autos for parking. A sum of Rs 16,885 has been recovered from the men.

4. Abu Salem Gets 7 Years for Extortion Bid, Third Major Conviction Since He Was Extradited

A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced gangster Abu Salem to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for trying to extort Rs 5 crore from a Delhi businessman in 2002. Salem is already serving a life term in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case and another in the murder of builder Pradeep Jain.

In the latest case — a demand of Rs 5 crore as protection money was made from businessman Ashok Gupta, a resident of Greater Kailash in south Delhi, in 2002 — Salem was convicted under sections 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the IPC.

5. Man Arrested for Stalking Playback Singer

Amboli police on Wednesday, 6 June, arrested a Bihar resident for stalking and threatening a 26-year-old playback singer. The victim — who has sung a few Bollywood hits — had not responded to calls and text messages from Rajeshkumar Shukla (30). He was arrested from CSMT, within few hours of the case being registered.

Shukla, who claimed he was a fan of the victim, came here two weeks back to meet her. “Shukla was tracked with the help of the mobile he used to send abusive and lewd text messages.

6. 41-Year-Old Man Duped of Over Rs 12 Lakh by Fake Dating Website

A 41-year-old man employed with a private bank has been allegedly duped of Rs 12.55 lakh by a ‘fake’ online dating website. The police said the complainant paid Rs 12.55 lakh to the alleged fraudsters after they promised him a ‘date’ with girls in the city. The complainant, Pankaj Prabhu, who stays in Prabhadevi, registered a case of cheating and criminal intimation against the website.

“On 21 May, I was surfing the internet when suddenly several sites popped up on my screen, out of which, one turned out to be a dating website. I filled the formalities and started browsing through the website. Later, I got a call from an unidentified number and a woman, who introduced herself as Tania, started talking with me,” said the complainant in his statement to the police.

7. Inter-State Drug Cartel Busted, 3 Held in Delhi

With the arrest of three persons, the Delhi Police Crime Branch claimed to have busted an inter-state drug cartel that used to smuggle drugs in Delhi and NCR and carry back illicit liquor to Bihar.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Ravi (25), Munna Kumar Jha (30) and Gayapal (62). A truck loaded with 700 kg marijuana was recovered from the accused, said a senior police officer.

JCP (crime), Alok Kumar, said that one Vipin Kumar, who is an alleged drug and liquor lord in Patna, Bihar, procured the marijuana from Naxal-affected areas of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh for distribution in Delhi-NCR.

“The accused used the drug racket to further procure illicit liquor from Delhi and NCR for distribution in the dry state of Bihar. Vipin has more than 50 members in his organised syndicate spread over many states,” said the JCP.

8. Delhi: Maid Jumps to Death in Robbery Bid, 2 Held

Two men have been arrested for barging into an elderly man’s house and threatening his domestic help, who jumped from the first floor in an attempt to escape and died. The incident took place in Karol Bagh last month.  Police said the accused have been identified as Vinay Kumar and Lilu Pal.

Police said one of the servants, Hariram (48), told police that his employer, Avinash Chander Bhalla (78) and his wife lived at the house while his daughter lives in Singapore. On 30 May, she flew to the capital to visit him and she and his wife went out later. The domestic help came to work as well.

9. Delhi: SHO Files Case Against Rape Victim Instead of Accused Cop, Probe on

The Station House Officer (SHO) of northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri police station was sent to district lines after he refused to lodge an FIR in a case of alleged rape of a woman by a Delhi Police personnel.  Instead, sources said, the SHO registered an FIR against the woman on a complaint by the accused police personnel.

DCP (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said, “We had conducted an internal enquiry, following which he was sent to district lines. On the basis of the woman’s complaint, an FIR was registered and a probe is underway.”

A senior police officer said the woman had approached police a few months ago. “In her complaint, she alleged that she was raped by a head constable, and he was threatening her with dire consequences if she did not withdraw her complaint against him. Her complaint was received, but no action was taken by the SHO,” the officer said.
