1. Ex-IPS Officer Sanjiv Bhatt Sentenced to Jail for Life by Gujarat Court in 1990 Custodial Death Case

Sanjiv Bhatt, the ex-IPS officer from Gujarat, was on Thursday sentenced to jail for life by Jamnagar court in police custody death case. Jamnagar’s sessions judge DN Vyas has convicted and sentenced Bhatt, but is yet to pronounce the quantum of sentence for six other policemen who were also convicted in this case, according to news agency ANI.

“After the complete trial in 1990 Jam Jodhpur custodial death case, Jamnagar Sessions Court today booked accused Sanjeev Bhatt and Pravinsinh Jhala under section 302 while the others are booked for torturing,” public prosecutor Tushar Gokani told media after the hearing, according to ANI.

2. Muslim Men Beaten up in Assam’s Barpeta, Forced to Chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’

Complaints were filed against a little-known right-wing organisation on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a group of Muslim men in Assam and forcing them to utter slogans "Jai Shri Ram" and "Pakistan Murdabad" on Tuesday.

Two FIRs were filed against the right wing organisation and its founder by the All Assam Minority Students'' Union (AAMSU) and the North-East Minorities Students' Union (NEMSU).

3. Mumbai Woman Held for ‘Killing’ 65-Yr-Old Mother-In-Law

Wadala Police on Thursday arrested a 44-year-old woman for allegedly killing her 65-year-old mother-in-law in Tambe Nagar.

Police said the incident took place on June 16, when the woman’s husband Vitthal had gone out for work. The accused, Surekha Gere, and her mother-in-law Sakarabai lived next to each other. Surekha claims that her mother-in-law would always taunt and abuse her. “She (Surekha) was working on the veranda when the mother-in-law started abusing again, following which she walked up to her and banged her head on the wall,” said Senior Inspector Gangadhar Sonawane. On realising that the 65-year-old had stopped breathing, she wiped the bloodstains from the wall and went inside her room, said police.

4. Family Feud Drives Maharashtra Minor to Kill 17-Year-Old Accused of Murder

A teenager was apprehended by the Baramati police for the murder of a 17-year-old girl, who was accused of killing his grandfather. The two were found to be distant paternal relatives.

The girl was attacked by the boy near Sanskrutik Bhawan in Baramati on Monday at 8:30pm. She was rushed to a nearby hospital from where she was shifted to the Sassoon General Hospital. The teen girl succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday at 8pm. She had sustained injuries on her face and head in the attack.

5. UP: Man Robbed off Rs 1 Lakh, Hunt on for Robbers

Four unidentified bike-borne men allegedly snatched away Rs 1 lakh from a person on Hastinapur road near Samaspur village on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Ravi (30), a resident of Bhumakhedi village, works as an agent of a finance company. “Ravi lodged a complaint with the Mawana police station against unknown persons. According to the victim, he was on his way to office after collecting dues from local residents in nearby villages when he was robbed. He also claimed that the robbers allegedly beat him up and also hit him with a blunt object on his head when he tried to resist their attempt,” police said.

6. Tanzanian Woman Killed Kenyan Neighbour In Delhi Over A Beer Bottle: Cops

A 24-year-old Tanzanian woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing a Kenyan woman, who was her neighbour, in south Delhi's Chhattarpur area after an argument between the two over lending a bottle of beer, police said.

The accused was identified as Jasmine, a native of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, they added.

7. Child Dies in UP Hospital; Doctor Suspended

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday ordered the suspension of a doctor and departmental proceedings against another after a four-year-old child died due to alleged medical negligence at a government hospital in Bareilly, officials said.

The chief medical Superintendent (CMS) of the men’s wing at the government hospital, Dr Kamlendra Swaroop Gupta, was suspended after the death of the four-day-old girl, according to an official release. Departmental proceedings have also been ordered against Dr Alka Sharma, CMS of the hospital’s women’s wing.

8. Thane Woman Found Bludgeoned to Death Beside Unhurt Infant

A 23-year-old woman was murdered in her house, and her six-month-old baby was found sitting in a pool of her blood, in Bhiwandi Wednesday, said police. The baby was unhurt, and discovered by the victim’s husband after he returned home from work.

The victim, identified as Seetadevi Yadav, was a resident of Rehnai village. “She was hit on the head with a blunt object multiple times,” an officer said, adding that the body has been sent for postmortem, but the head injury seems to be the cause of death.

9. Rajasthan Man Hangs Self After Allegedly Killing Wife, Daughters: Cops

A 30-year-old man allegedly hanged himself after killing his wife and two minor daughters in Rajasthan's Sirohi due to financial crisis, police said on Thursday.

On late Wednesday night, Prabhu Bheel allegedly killed his wife 25 year-old wife Geeta and three-year-old daughter Rama with a sword. He allegedly strangled his one-and-a-half-year old daughter Jamu.
