1. Delhi: 5 Held for Making, Selling Fake Cumin

Five men were arrested from North West Delhi’s Bawana for allegedly running a manufacturing unit in Pooth Khurd village, where they prepared cumin with low-quality raw material.

Police said the accused— Harinandan, Kamran, Ganga Prasad, Harish and Pawan — are from UP’s Shahjahanpur. “We received information about the racket and shared the information with senior officers and FSSAI officials,” said a senior officer.

2. Three Brothers Stab Man for Abusing Mother

A 22-year-old man was stabbed to death by three brothers in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla on Monday, 18 November night for allegedly abusing their mother. The deceased was identified as Firoz and two of the accused brothers — Ashfaq and Mushtaq — have been arrested. Police said the victim and the accused all have criminal records.

“Mumtaz, the third brother, is on the run and efforts are on to arrest him,” said Monika Bhardwaj, deputy commissioner of police (North).

3. Two Teachers at Private School Held for Abetting Student’s Suicide

Two teachers of a private school in West Delhi’s Naraina Vihar have been arrested on charges of abetment of suicide, of a class VII student last year, said police.

The 12-year-old girl, who hanged herself at her house, had written the names of the two teachers on her palms and hands and left behind a suicide note. Police said the girl’s class teacher and science teacher were arrested on 17 November.

4. Con Man Boards Over 15 Flights as Pilot, Held

Life imitated art at Delhi’s IGI airport on Monday, 18 November when security personnel caught a man pretending to be a Lufthansa pilot while boarding a flight to Kolkata on AirAsia India—an act reminiscent of the lead character in the Steven Spielberg movie, ‘Catch Me If You Can’.

In the 2002 film, teenage con artist Frank Abagnale Jr (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) pretends to be a Pan American pilot, among his many impersonations, while swindling millions of dollars.

5. Sand Mafia Try to Mow Down Cop During Night Raid in Virar

The driver of a dumper carrying illegally-dredged sand tried to run over a constable after an impromptu police raid on the sand mafia in Virar. The incident highlights how illegal sand mining continues unabated in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, especially in its far corners, and how daring mafia members have become.

Palghar superintendent of police Gaurav Singh, along with constable Dinesh Patil (27), was headed for a meeting on Sunday night when, on the way, he saw a truck laden with sand. Singh stopped the truck and questioned the driver, who told him that the load was from a spot at Virar’s Khardi reti bunder.

6. Security Guard Held for Beating Stray Dog to Death

The Juhu police on Tuesday, 19 November arrested a security guard of a housing society for allegedly beating a disabled stray dog to death earlier this month.

The complaint was filed by Mitul Pradeep, daughter of the legendary poet Kavi Pradeep. She told The Hindu that the dog, lovingly called Langdu, had been staying on the premises of Shivam Housing Society in Juhu for the past 10 years. On 8 November, a resident of the building called up Pradeep to inform her that Langdu had been beaten and was severely injured.

7. Dombivli Builder Arrested for Cheating Bank of Rs 7 Crore

Dombivli police arrested a builder for allegedly cheating CKP Bank of around Rs 7 crore by selling two flats and one plot mortgaged with the bank. An FIR had been filed against builder Jagdish Wagh in the past too for cheating people.

In February, the staff of CKP Bank filed a complaint against Wagh alleging that in 2012, he took a loan of Rs 7 crore against two flats and a plot. But he paid instalments on the loan only for a few years. When the bank tried to seal the flats and plot over non-payment of dues, it learnt Wagh had sold these properties to someone else.

8. Sex Selection Racket: Clinic Reopened for Investigation

Taking the investigation forward in the case of a Delhi fertility clinic allegedly offering sex selection services to couples, a meeting was held with officials of the Delhi government’s health and home departments to chalk out a plan.

The officials, along with the sub-divisional magistrate, collected laptops, files, CDs and other crucial documents from the Karol Bagh clinic.

The clinic was sealed last month after a central investigation team raided it.

9. ACP & a Woman Get Life Term for Slitting Her Son’s Throat in 2013

A sessions court on Tuesday, 19 November convicted and sentenced an assistant commissioner of police and his lover to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of the woman’s 25-year-old son in her flat in 2013. Judge U M Padwad found the couple guilty of murder and conspiracy under the relevant sections of the IPC.

The prosecution had submitted that the deceased, Rohan Zogade, used to have tiffs with his mother, Nanda (50), over her “illicit relationship” with ACP Shivaji Naravne.
