1. Jhansi Man’s Killing: Named in FIR, Brother Says Was in Delhi

As the killing of Pushpendra Yadav in an alleged encounter in Jhansi triggered a political row with Opposition leaders flocking to his home and targeting the BJP state government, the UP Police Wednesday registered an FIR into the encounter.

Another FIR was registered earlier against Yadav, his brother Ravinder and cousin Vipin for allegedly firing at Moth police station SHO Dharmender Chauhan, who had seized Yadav’s truck about a week earlier, on October 6. This FIR states that the three men were cornered by police hours later and after a brief shootout, Yadav was shot dead and Ravinder and Vipin escaped.

2. Salman Khan's Bungalow Caretaker Arrested in Theft Case: Police

A 62-year-old man, who worked as a caretaker at one of actor Salman Khan's bungalow, was arrested on Wednesday in a three-decade-old theft case, a police official said.

The city police crime branch arrested Shakti Siddheshwar Rana from Salman Khan's house in Gorai in western suburbs.

3. Kerala ‘Serial Killings’: Demands Raised to Probe Three More Deaths

The mystery surrounding the alleged serial killings of six members of an extended family by a woman in Kozhikode deepened, with demands being raised to probe three other deaths — two in the same extended family.

Last week, police arrested Jolly Joseph (47), who hails from Koodathai village, on charges of killing her husband, parents-in-law and three other members of the Ponnamattom family over 14 years since 2002.

4. 162 Arrested From Kolkata During Puja Festivities

At least 162 people were arrested by police from different parts of Kolkata for disorderly conduct and other offences during the six-day Durga puja festival from October 2 to October 7.

Raids were conducted by different departments of Kolkata Police in the city and adjoining areas as part of the drive, said police.

5. Delhi: Drugs Found in Car of Bureaucrat’s Husband

Security agencies went into a tizzy Wednesday evening, after CISF personnel found a “suspicious vehicle” parked outside the Electronics Niketan in CGO Complex.

Police were also called in, and they found 550 grams of charas from inside the car, officers said. On further investigation, it came to light that the car belonged to an IAS officer’s husband.

6. Aligarh: Shopkeeper Shot at After He Asked Men to Pay Rs 5 for 'Gutkha'

A 25-year-old shopkeeper was allegedly shot at by a group of men in Aligarh's Madhopur area of Uttar Pradesh after the former asked them to pay Rs 5 for the 'gutkha' that they had purchased from his shop.

According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday night around 9L20 pm when the suspects, Deepak, Tikanna, Pota and Fauzdar went to a shop run by the victim, Chotu Agarwal, in Aligarh to buy a gutkha worth Rs 5.

7. ‘Gang Leader’ in 18 Theft Cases in Ahmedabad Held

The local crime branch arrested a man allegedly involved in over 18 cases of theft of vehicles and valuables inside houses in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

According to police, the accused, identified as 24-year-old Manmohan Singh, a resident of sector 13 in Gandhinagar, allegedly leads a four-member gang involved in thefts of bikes, cars and valuables from houses in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.

8. Ahmedabad: Two Days After Couple Found Dead in Flat, Six Relatives Arrested

Two days after the bodies of a couple were found at an apartment in Odhav area of Ahmedabad, police arrested six relatives of the deceased man, including his two uncles, for allegedly harassing the couple and driving them to suicide.

Police said the six accused were picked up from their residences in Ahmedabad. Police took action after they found a suicide note from the body of 21-year-old Lakshman Chaudhary, which mentioned that he and his partner Puja Tarkesh (23) were under stress due to constant harassment by family members, especially his uncle, over their relationship.
